I can almost guarantee that if Eli threw for 40 TDs and 6 INTs next year and his team got bounded in the second round, junc would argue that Eli didnt have an elite year because he didnt come up "clutch" and win a SB. Its pointless arguing with junc because his arguments are so circular that no matter what happens he is always right.
i disagree with junc on many of his jet points, but i agree with him here. he is not saying the giants are not an elite team, he is saying eli is not elite, which i agree with. superbowls are nice, but again its a team game and there is much more to an individual players success than superbowl wins, because if that were the case dan marino would not be even close to elite.
teams win superbowls, not individuals. the giants defense stepped it up big time in the postseason, and was a major factor in why the giants won a superbowl. yes manning played well vs green bay and played well vs the pats in the superbowl not turning the ball over and making big throws, but again, in order to be elite as a player, u need to do it consistently, such as the bradys, peytons, rodgers etc do.
eli had a very solid regular season last year, but as junc pointed out 29 and 16 is not exactly elite. its good, but its not elite. i guarantee if eli put up the 40-6 td int numbers you said junc would say he was elite, which he would be , heck it wouldn't even need to be that great a td int ratio.
there are deff times where eli manning looks amazing no doubt, but there are also way too many times during games where he looks horrible, that is what separates him from the bradys, brees, rodgers, peyton, etc qbs in the nfl. consistency.
he deff has time to become an elite qb as he still has plenty of years left barring no injury, but he needs to become consistent season to season. does not need to win another superbowl even, just put up more consistent regular season and better numbers. people may say regular season means ****, but again our very own dan marino, who imo is the greatest qb to play the game, deff didnt get in because of his playoff success, so it deff matters.
