Second Guessing Hickey?

Threads like these always amuse me b/c you make it seem like all of these guys were not only available, but would've also agreed to sign with Miami at the same rate as the teams they actually signed with. It's also funny to me that you're now second-guessing Hickey's job so far, based on nothing, but also based on whatever your interpretation of a good team is.

Your being positive lately is frightening me

Glad to see you got a chuckle. However, I based my thread on what I knew on Collins and Verner saying they wanted to come here, and thinking Asamoah would take an extra half a Mil to do the same. This is saying that I wanted 3 players we did not sign, and 2 saying they want to be here. Nothing to do with the rest, other than paying more for Asamoah.

My second guessing is based on results/facts coming out of FA, which is not nothing, and Hickey still looking to sign Streiff at the end of it. I do agree with him in trying but, should have done a bit more earlier. My interpretation seems to be the same as Hickey's, as he was also wanting for one more on the OL before the draft.

We aren't relying on media opinion. We never do when that opinion is negative. With that being said I kind of agree with the OP that FA has been a mixed bag on paper. Obviously we won't really know until the season starts. I'm also not one to worry about money that is not taken from my personal account

I was overly anxious to fix most of the OL in the first few days of FA. I was told by some to be patient. Well, after seeing the end result of what we ended up with on the OL, and FA overall. I have to second guess what Hickey has done. I also have to believe that IF Ireland had done the same, more would be doing the same. A closer look.

You have to be patient. We still have a lot of cap space, and free agency isn't over. Compared to Ireland, Hickey if off to a very good start.

I'm thinking that Monroe was gonna go back to Balt, and that most teams knew that. JMO

Collins was a bit better than Albert last year, although in limited play. He was a risk but, $3M cheaper.

Serious question: what makes you think Collins is a better player than Albert?

As far as Monroe, there wasnt even an offer made by another team as far as we know. He didn't even visit other teams or engage in serious negotiations. If that's the case, then he was never an option anyway.

National and even local views on this team have been positive for the Dolphins this free agency. With some saying the Dolphins did the best job among all the teams. Though the fan base hates everything that was done. Seems about right.

Great to see that the media likes what we did in FA, as we all know, respect, and believe what they have to say. lol

Didn't say to love or accept what they write and say, did I? Just thought it was funny that almost everyone outside of Dolfans like what the team did this free agency period. Listen to the fans and you would think we absolutely blew free agency and set ourselves back for years. Just pointing out something that amuses me.

I am not a fan of the FA moves so far, I will wait until the draft to see what he adds to complete his off season plan...If I had to give my opinion now I say not good....Our offense is better than last yr right now, that is a positive but their are still holes.....The D on the other hand is a total disaster...our secondary is older more injury prone, our LB are still weak without any depth and we lost our top run stopper.....not a fan of Finnegan, would have kept Patterson and Carol for what we paid him. Looks like the Jets are going to sign Patterson, we are in big trouble with the D unless we have a lot of luck come our way.......

No, you did not. I differ with their opinions, as have others on VIP and here. They are all nothing more than opinions, and we will not know anything until the draft and the season play out. FWIW, I believe that we could/should have done more but, we shall see.

Hickey: Arthritic Mitchell for big Paul. Finnegan/over paid. Delmas/over paid and Clemmons has more upside. Shelly Smith/short term fix/meh. Albert/Philbin's boy last season. Grimes/Ireland, resigned/no brainer. Starks/Ireland/2years left maybe.. Not bad but not good. Rather keep big Paul.

And you people this is good????? LMAO!

Personally, I liked the upside and smarts of the kid from Oakland, but:
a) considering we locked into Albert with vacuum vision, I've gotta assume that he's who Philbin and Benton wanted all along for the schemes they had in mind. As such, I realize that there are cap implications and restrictions when you overpay, but hell we're not even close to that, so a few more $mil to a multi billionaire to give our coaches whom they presumably preferred, is not a problem to me.
b) by all reports he's a solid citizen and lockerroom leader .. after last year's fiasco, I'm sure that factored in as well as a way to justify overpaying.

Beyond that, I'm relatively happy with Free Agency except for Finnegan - and it's less a perception of him being unable to return to top form and more so the options of the lower priced alternatives. Generally I am all for low risk high gain potential rewards like with Williams, but the comp turned this into a high risk, high potential reward proposition.

Resigning Starks and especially Grimes was huge and aside from Albert, IMO the most important free agent signings Hickey accomplished.

Some don't care for this but, Verner was #17 from PFF, and #3 from NFL giving up a QB rating of 55.8 with 5 picks. Finnegen was #109 of 110, and #107 from the NFL. Take from that what you will.

Finnegan was injured all year long. I doubt he's ranked that low with no injury. He only played about a third of a season too.

And Verner wants a long term deal for big bucks (4years/$25 million) but we have Jamar Taylor waiting in the wings. We were only looking for a short term deal for the No. 2 CB spot. It doesnt make a lot of sense to commit that much money to a No. 2 CB position if you have someone pegged to move into that spot who is already on the roster. Another example of people looking at the dollars and not the big picture fit.

Oh and PFF sucks/ :chuckle:

If he's not inured he will be worth $5 million a year.

It will be worth it to me, if some of Finnegan's tenacity, experience, and study habits rub off on Taylor and Davis!

i could care less what the national media says about our free agent period...they probably said we hit it out the park last year with our disaster free agent signees and bad contracts
