See Harbaugh lock room speech?

The last time we had a head coach with fiery locker room speeches....

Honestly, as others have said, I couldn't give a damn what kind of post game locker room speeches my head coach gives. I want a coach who can lead and manage the team to winning football. Tony Dungy never gave amped up speeches after his games but he was a very good damn head coach. Just get the W's...that's all that matters!

 Funny TS......agree 100%

I think it can be contagious if there is a sufficient leadership structure among the players, and those leaders are of the same ilk (i.e., Ray Lewis paired with Vince Lombardi). If there isn't sufficient leadership among the players, or the leaders among the players aren't of that ilk, there will be no such "contagion" in my opinion. There won't be any "bridge" between the coach's personality and the infusion of that personality into the roster. Whatever the coach is doing will ring hollow, because it won't be transmitted to the roster via the player leaders with whom it resonates.

In other words, there need to be a whole lot more variables in place for "passion and fire" to have the sort of effect people think it does intuitively.

Ross needs to hire a motivational speaker like none other than.

Yea without a job vacacany lol . According to our owner he was only advising him and made no attempt to make him our coach. Depends on what lie u want to believe.

Porter was the same loudmouth dope when he was in Miami and they never did anything
There is more than one way to skin a cat, and there is no single magic bullet for winning.

Nobody knows how Philbin treats his players when they are not on the field. he could be a real hard ass for all we know. Everybody is going off of conjecture and what happened the last two games and it doesn't mean anything going.

People say he does nothing on the sidelines except stare into space and he doesn't have any fire which is bull. I've seen him rip into refs and I've seen him talk to the players on the sideline to try and pump them up so lets stop that.

When the team stops playing for him then I will worry until that point just tune out the noise.
This is what I meant above in saying that people's perceptions of Philbin are likely based on resolving ambiguities in his behavior in the direction of their own previous beliefs. Philbin, who has no history of winning, gets none of the benefit of the doubt (unless one is high on him for some other reason), whereas someone like Belichick, based on his history, gets all of it.

The two men are "Rorschach inkblots" whose previous histories almost completely inform the perceptions of their various behaviors, even the behaviors between them that are virtually identical.

when you have a history like Belicheck of winning why wouldn't he get the benefit of the doubt. Those 5 superbowl ring on his fingers are not knock offs or accidents. His winning the damn AFC east is not because he got lucky and got a great qb, because many a great Qb doesn't lead his team to division title year in and year out. This is one of the greatest coaches ever in the NFL and he has an actual history like you say. AT no level has Philbin been looked at as the best in the NFL at what he did.

The good coaches find ways to motivate players within their personality. Players will smell BS. As a coach, you have to be confident in who you are as a man. If you're cut out of it, it will translate. ALL good coaches know how to motivate. The particulars are less important.

I think much of coach motivation is somewhat overrated but there is no denying that Philbin ddint get across to the players the last two weeks. Belicheck would never have that happen in that situation

No, that's the kind of coach the fans need.

If you think that's what makes a great coach, then Sparano would still be here.

Well Harbaugh would be a great coach for us but true not all great to good coaches are the same.
Belichek does not seem like the ra ra guy lol

Well its fun as a fan to see those speeches, especially after a win, but as a player its not the reason they play well.

And by the way, Harbaugh had retired wrestler Ric Flair speak to his team before the Green Bay game. That's when a rah rah guy is used to give a pep talk before a game, while the coaches are allowed to coach.

Yea if I never see another fistbump after a fg again it will be too soon.

What do you think New England fans were saying about Belichick after his first season when he went 5-11? I'm sure there were no shortage of morons making all kinds of excuses as to why he was going to be terrible coach for everything from gametime decisions to speeches.
