Shelley Smith Leaves N.E. w/o deal

Shelly only started 3 games for the Rams last year according to the stats. 6 penalties and allowed 3 sacks.
They say he's a solid run blocker but must improve in pass protection.
Our O line coach had him one year at Houston so he should know what the upside is.

break that down over 16...god dang you better be a pile driver run blocker...no way in hell you can trust that kind of play...have to clean up a ton of things...but we don't have many options...****

Even if Martin isnt there this is the deepest OL draft in years and you can get a guy in the third round and it would be like an early second round guy last year. I would give Mckinnie a cheap 1 year deal nothing guaranteed and have him as a backup just to have decent depth if anything happens.

Completely agree, it's deep. I would love to see Miami get Joel Bitonio and move him inside, but he could play RT as well.

Although he was a reserve, OG Shelley Smith spent his first two seasons under then-Texans and now Dolphins OL coach Benton.

thurmond is more ideally suited for the slot i'd say but he can play the boundary and he's got a nose for the ball...makes plays on the ball...seattle gonna end up keeping him cheap probably...i just dont know if he can play a lot of off coverages at a high level...

at this point though **** lets find out

Have to agree with that. As thin as we are at CB, we cant match a $2.6 million a year offer to Carroll? Seems really bizarre considering we have no starting CB at the moment

I think it shows how much faith they have in Taylor being healthy and earning the starting spot. They also could be looking at resigning Patterson for around the same price. If Taylor is going to be on the outside than Patterson is a much better fit to cover the slot than Carroll.

I wonder if they have looked at Browner or Munnerlyn's price tags?

Jerry is being ignored in free agency because of bullygate. He was bad but he's far from the worst imo.

you don't want munnerlyn on the boundary unless you got a front that can reallu hide his physical weaknesses...he's flat footed a lot in space...and if qbs have time a vertical torch candidate due to that his small size and no long speed...slot sure

tarrell brown deserves a look too...he's also though helped by the d in front of him...solid player though just a little older than you'd like in free agency at corner at least...i wouldnt mind that though...be a stop gap we'd cut within 2 years likely

I hope you are right because the CB position is a real nail biter for me. I could live with Patterson being back, and hopefully Taylor can get on the as a 3rd CB at least.

Can we get Jerry back and platoon them like in baseball. Smith for running downs and Jerry for passing downs?

That's what I think as well. I just don't think we have enough depth at CB if someone goes down. Wilson can man the slot but what happens if/when Delmas gets hurt and he has to play S? The Fins have really no one I would trust on the inside. Which is why I think if Patterson isn't resigned that Munnerlyn might be a possibility.

Browner though I don't know if they would look at because of his 4 game suspension.

Smith only played 371 snaps last year, with 239, including 2 starts at RG. He had 2 VG grades on the run at RG but, also his 2 worst pass protect games. His run blocking is consistently VG. In pass protect, he had bad games vs Seattle and Tenn. Other than that he was a little below average. On 200 pass plays, he gave p 2 sacks, 4 hits, and 12 hurries.

IMO, he is the best available option at OG still available.

browners not a fit...more so than thurmond would be...browners press man jam guy...beats you with his strength and ability to reroute you at the los...in your hip guy not fluid enough with the cod and hips to play a lot of off coverages and not get caught flat footed...solid player just different scheme

yeah the corner depth if an injury is a problem as is the safety...hell 2 guys we got penciled at starters rght now in the secondary have health concerns...it's not good...taylor i mean sure he's got tools no doubt but damn get thru a camp and then we will see...

patterson another guy who should change his name to doubtful

Source says G Shelley Smith, meeting with #Patriots this morning, is headed to Miami tonight for a visit with #Dolphins

Sounds like Smith is only starting his NE visit... might not even make it to Miami
