Shelley Smith Leaves N.E. w/o deal

browners not a fit...more so than thurmond would be...browners press man jam guy...beats you with his strength and ability to reroute you at the los...in your hip guy not fluid enough with the cod and hips to play a lot of off coverages and not get caught flat footed...solid player just different scheme

yeah the corner depth if an injury is a problem as is the safety...hell 2 guys we got penciled at starters rght now in the secondary have health concerns...it's not good...taylor i mean sure he's got tools no doubt but damn get thru a camp and then we will see...

patterson another guy who should change his name to doubtful

With DT now off the draft board, I'm thinking we could very well go S with the #19 pick. That's where I would go, as of now.

Source says G Shelley Smith, meeting with #Patriots this morning, is headed to Miami tonight for a visit with #Dolphins

Sounds like Smith is only starting his NE visit... might not even make it to Miami

The quote you used undermines your own opinion.

He is meeting with the patriots today if nothing happens he is going to Mimai .... not very complicated. If he reaches a deal you can be sure he will cancel the plane ticket

possible...i'd say with how we sniffed jackson to be our new mike that lb could be a pretty high priority also if the values there with that pick...definitely think somethings getting added there cause the free agent options minus special teamers and guys we'd never bring in to begin with is gone

but they better fix the oline...thought we'd do more in free agency there...make it more a early priority...wish we had gotten beadles even if he only gave us 3 years...

got a lot of needs still i know that much...across the team positional needs

if we did bring mckinnie back it would be after the draft and they see how it plays out for them imo barring a one year vet minimum thing where we can just bring him to camp and walk away if we want...but i would be more inclined as the swing tackle than a starter...it's possible he was as stiff as he was late in the season cause of that knee injury he played thru but man he does not get to much in space any more

bottom line is we are running out of options...hickey wake up and go check into michael ohers market...he's young in his prime not some stop gap or camp invite crap and he's still a good athlete...may be quite motivated if given a low deal...that would be the guy i'd go after not streif and his inflated pass pro numbers cause brees works the pocket like a magician but a michael oher to play right tackle

I've been saying McKinnie on the bench or spot starting is quite a valuable asset for this OLine to have.

And I really like the idea of Oher. So much so, I say sign them both. Having ex-teammates from a Super Bowl team that work well together will help build a strong OLine. McKinnie is the old guy that everyone can look up to, learn from and his presence is calming. As it did IMMEDIATELY when we acquired him last year. As soon as he stepped on the field, our problems started to go away. It wasn't so much that he was the solution on the field, he was the solution on the sideline and in the locker room. A quiet man that big tends to quiet the chirping in a group of guys. When he speaks, guys listen. He's been there, done that (good and bad) and he's got some hardware to show for his journey.

I don't care about his age. I care about his contributions as a leader and presence in the huddle, on the sideline and in practice. That's why Bully Gate happened. We lacked too many pieces of leadership. Not every leader is vocal.

Starks' signing has the exact same effect on the DLine. It just so happens Starks can still bring it at a high level. McKinnie can't for 16 games. But I'll take him on the sideline backing up the T's, spot starts, jumbo packages, teaching the young guys and keeping the OL on an even keel between possessions for all 16 games.

I really believe McKinnie's presence could even help get the most out of an Oher signing. Having 2 guys with Rings on the sidelines, Albert and Pouncey with top skill and young guys filling the ranks... we've solved our leadership issues in the OLine and give ourselves a great breeding ground for the young guys to learn, succeed and help protect the franchise. Then Tannehill and whomever is carrying the rock can truly start to execute the offense with correct timing and holes being there as they are drawn up.

Sign me up for Oher and McKinnie. And I like what I'm hearing about Smith too. I don't care if his pass protection isn't the greatest. We have lost Incog's run blocking. Smith fills that with a lot less baggage. And he can be taught to protect better. But he does solve a giant run blocking problem for us. Albert isn't the best run blocker but is great as a pass protector. Slide Smith next to him and they can compliment each other.

We're not just filling talent shoes, we're filling leadership and veterans shoes desperately needed on this OLine.

Championships are won in the trenches.

I was definitely hoping for another o-line signing as well. What about Streif now that Collins is off the board? I know he wanted to resign with the Saints for big $ but I don't know about their cap space now. Maybe his price has come down a bit. Plus I worry about how much of his pass blocking efficiency can be attributed to Brees pocket awareness.

Oher scares me as well. I can't put my finger on it but when watching him play he just doesn't seem to ever dominate. I also wonder why Baltimore hasn't resigned him as they need o-line help as well.

I also wonder if they have checked in with Blount? Hickey would definitely have first hand knowledge about what kind of person he is in the locker room and he fits the bruiser RB they are looking for.

Also, with Revis signing in NE I would get James Jones in for a visit ASAP. The Pats just took away the Fins #1 receiving option and I don't think Hartline can consistently beat McCourtey. Plus who knows how Gibson's knee is going to respond. Matthews is ok as a 4th WR but I'd much rather have Jones who has proven he can be a definite #3 and red zone target.

Hard to imagine Mosley dropping to #19, and he's the only first round Mike. Pryor or Clinton-Dix appear to be likely available.

I'm with ya on the OL concerns. Unless we go Deitrich-Smith, and Smith, we could be looking at a vet or two for a year. Not my preference.

At RT, I would be OK with Clabo and a 2nd round pick to compete. OG is my #1 concern.

I think it shows how much faith they have in Taylor being healthy and earning the starting spot. They also could be looking at resigning Patterson for around the same price. If Taylor is going to be on the outside than Patterson is a much better fit to cover the slot than Carroll.

I wonder if they have looked at Browner or Munnerlyn's price tags?

I think you're right. We might draft another CB, but it looks like we're relying on Patterson/Taylor if we can get Dimitri back on a cheap deal.

I'd love us to go after CB Phillip Gaines of Rice in the late rounds for depth. He's a perfect Coyle guy. Quick, athletic, great zone awareness and has an eye for the big play. A lot fo good CBs in the draft, so some will fall to the late rounds. I don't see comparable talent in the free agent pool, if you're looking for a shifty zone guy to play boundary.

clabo should not be a starter under any circumstances

I also like signing James Jones. Another Vet with experience/knowledge/success in the system. Build leadership and experience at every position.

And I don't understand for the life of me why we only carried 4 WRs last year when our offense depends on them so much. If I'm GM, I don't even have to wonder where the WR5 spot is going to be manufactured from this roster. Egnew, Good Bye.

And I would like to see MJD signed to replace DT. Even if not the same player he used to be, 25% of MJD is better than 300% of DT. Again, add leadership and experience.
