Shelley Smith Leaves N.E. w/o deal

he's more talented than all this other garbage you guys are talking about...and has plug and play potential at right tackle...

Maybe on the Blindside featuring Sandra Bullock he looked more talented but the guy is a liability as a run blocker and pass protector. Why would he all of a sudden improve? I'll watch a few games but you can pretty much lock that guy up for 8+ sacks year in and year out.

Usually the good players get a visit from someone...and you figure a smart GM like Ozzie would recognize his talent if it was there.

I'd be ok with Oher at RT. Having 2 legit tackles and a stud center in the middle puts a lot let pressure on your guards.

Hoops, do you think Brenner has a chance to start this year? He played ok last year, except against the Bills week 16. I wonder how much stronger against the POA he will get this offseason.

i don't know the answer to that...brenner was a pillow fighter in 2013...needs to get much stronger...more pop in his hands...cant lose any of his athleticism...

Are people in love with Oher because he was the subject of that ****ty movie? He's not good, people.

Sentrel Henderson needs to be drafted as the right tackle....would be a steal.

Oher is used garbage.. Brenner is a career back up, Dallas Thomas is a future Canadian football league back up guard and Garner is obviously not starting material... We need this sign.

what's to say the ravens aren't monitoring his market looking for a buy low deal...i dont buy that lock for 8 plus sacks a year stuff...his best position is right tackle...he's young he's not an interior player who is on a 15 plus sack clip pace over 16 games that you guys want to just teach to play pass pro...

but they dont play the same position anyways so that's a moot point...the options are getting low of what's out there imo oher is the best one...i dont care what pff graded him or what anyone else thinks about it either...if i was gonna take a chance i'd take it on michael oher...period...you are getting top 20 pick worthy tools and frame in a prime of his career age player...not some stop gap we got to hope physically doesnt fall off the cliff...just what i would do...take the chance on oher

and if you havent watched any games why should i believe you shooting him down as an option...or should i even care

FWIW, Clabo blocked 5 times on screens last year- vs Indy, Balt, Cinci, SD, and NE#2. His only negative was the SD screen. Screens are something he has always done well. I think he led the league over the last few years.

take that stat and shove it up pffs rear...what a load of crap...he's a 10 foot box tackle at this point of his career

Why....

I will ask...everyone seems to want this kid, but has anyone seen him play? I'm all for bring in lineman to compete, but signing him isn't a necessity...

I've watched some games of Oher from past seasons, not this season. You're taking a 300-400 snap sample size for Shelley and projecting him for a sack a game.

8 / 674
11 / 785
10 / 692
9 / 634
5 /635

That's his sacks to pass blocking snaps. Safe bet for 8 sacks, if anything is rookie year seems like an outlier. And whoever dropped that Smith stat is totally off base...he gave up 2 sacks last year in 200 pass pro snaps in 2013. So if we want to project guys on small sample sizes he's probably giving up 6-7 snaps inside. I mean he's athletic, his issue is he gets lazy with his technique which you and me know is correctable. He kind of reminds me of Trai Turner, I just think Turner would develop a bit quicker than Smith has.

I watched his Titans game where he's lined up across from Jurrell Casey for most of it and he plays very well. He's a mauler in the run game and a great mover for his size, pass pro is the concern but if he cleans up his technique I don't see why he can't succeed there. With the current guard market I consider this a necessity.

cause he's coming in for a visit...that's why...i guess

I have no clue who he is other then a guy who visited NE and is now coming to MIA....yes he is a G and I guess he pulls well (I don't typically watch the Rams play).....

I know these guys are older, but...

Tarvelle Wharton, Willie Colon, Davin Joseph...at least I know they can start in the NFL....1 year deal if needed....

if i'm projecting a sack a game well that's cause i saw 3 sacks in 3 games...so yeah i guess i got to go on that off his prior work...6 penalties is something else too...like maybe he's trying to cheat with some things...ie starting early etc...i don't know

but i'd still look into ohers market i know that much...i see a more talented player than he's played of late...and i'm fine being alone on that

Ya he's a bit grabby in pass pro, there's definitely some risk there but we really need some brute force inside and Smith has performed at a high level as a run blocker. Great athlete to boot, with our current stable I'd rather take a chance on this guy than Oher who really hasn't shown anything for a while IMO. But to each their own. Oher's worth exploring just due to the lack of options we have but if we're relying on him at RT I'd very concerned for Tanny.

Okay I see what's being referenced, those are Shelley's 2012 snaps. 3 sacks in 223 pass protection snaps. Had issues with penalties that year, didn't have the same issues this year.

No to Oher!

No to Wade Smith as well.

I did not see Clab having problems on screens but, always wishing to learn. I kept most games recorded. Which ones was he so bad in on screen blocking?
