clabo should not be a starter under any circumstances
Then you did not watch his play in the last 9 games from last year.

I've been saying McKinnie on the bench or spot starting is quite a valuable asset for this OLine to have.
And I really like the idea of Oher. So much so, I say sign them both. Having ex-teammates from a Super Bowl team that work well together will help build a strong OLine. McKinnie is the old guy that everyone can look up to, learn from and his presence is calming. As it did IMMEDIATELY when we acquired him last year. As soon as he stepped on the field, our problems started to go away. It wasn't so much that he was the solution on the field, he was the solution on the sideline and in the locker room. A quiet man that big tends to quiet the chirping in a group of guys. When he speaks, guys listen. He's been there, done that (good and bad) and he's got some hardware to show for his journey.
I don't care about his age. I care about his contributions as a leader and presence in the huddle, on the sideline and in practice. That's why Bully Gate happened. We lacked too many pieces of leadership. Not every leader is vocal.
Starks' signing has the exact same effect on the DLine. It just so happens Starks can still bring it at a high level. McKinnie can't for 16 games. But I'll take him on the sideline backing up the T's, spot starts, jumbo packages, teaching the young guys and keeping the OL on an even keel between possessions for all 16 games.
I really believe McKinnie's presence could even help get the most out of an Oher signing. Having 2 guys with Rings on the sidelines, Albert and Pouncey with top skill and young guys filling the ranks... we've solved our leadership issues in the OLine and give ourselves a great breeding ground for the young guys to learn, succeed and help protect the franchise. Then Tannehill and whomever is carrying the rock can truly start to execute the offense with correct timing and holes being there as they are drawn up.
Sign me up for Oher and McKinnie. And I like what I'm hearing about Smith too. I don't care if his pass protection isn't the greatest. We have lost Incog's run blocking. Smith fills that with a lot less baggage. And he can be taught to protect better. But he does solve a giant run blocking problem for us. Albert isn't the best run blocker but is great as a pass protector. Slide Smith next to him and they can compliment each other.
We're not just filling talent shoes, we're filling leadership and veterans shoes desperately needed on this OLine.
Championships are won in the trenches.

you not watch the first half of the season? bad fit, badly declining problem and a poor athlete.
tell that to the qb haters around here...i hear ya...and yeah maybe smith can learn pass pro...i just don't think we should go in saying ok right guard is filled or whatever...get a bunch of guys draft and free agent cheap signees to compete
and yeah if you ask me oher is a no brainer at this point...if we can get him away from baltimore...mckinnie i'd make wait til after the draft and see what shakes out there...he's got some off the field stuff he brought with him they may want to get away from or disassociate now from anyways...in 2013 it was dire...in 2014 we at least hope it's not
and no way on clabo...that would have to be a dire in season situation for me to even consider ever bringing him back...the floor is about to fall out there let it be for someone else...swing tackle has to be able to play either side in a pinch and clabo at left would be a turnstile...
Agree on Clabo being lost at LT. My interest is at a RT option only. Interest in McKennie fascinates me. He was horrible last year for us, and even worse in Balt. I remember former great OL Mark Schlerith, after watching a game tape, saying that McKennie was the worst individual performance by a guy on the OL that he has ever seen, and that he knows a lot more on the OL than we do.

by the way it sounds like this smith guy is looking for $4 mil per year or something...could just be a wish thing but still...started 3 games and $4 mil per...yeesh
dump that in michael oher instead...

****in Michael Oher hasn't done **** to warrant this much praise...on the cheap sure, we need some help but I don't know what makes you think he's gonna have his first good year since he was a rookie. Sandwich Shelley between Albert and Pouncey and see how much that helps him in protection. He's a solid athlete but he's constantly getting moved between guard spots, he gets lazy with his technique in protection but it's correctable. He's got the most upside of anyone out there and is already a top shelf run blocker which is exactly what we need inside. This is a no brainer signing.

mckinnie supposedly played thru a torn meniscus last year...so i am at least taking that into consideration...plus if i brought any of em back it would be as a swing guy so clabo would be out anyways for me...plus it's not like he gets to much in space to begin with...him tryng to get out there to block on a bubble screen was a lol joke for the opposition dc up in the booth...a waste down pretty much
