sigh...Tim Tebow

So for the people that "hate" Tebow, it's not about his faith, but his expression of it? Do the Jews with the curls on the side of their head disdain you or the Hindu with the dot on their forehead, how about the Rastafarian with their dreadlocks or the turban or the robe worn by many Eastern religions. We live in a free land and if he wants to express his faith openly, so what? And what exactly is he doing? Thanking his God, Jesus Christ-actors, musicians and other athletes do this all the time. Praying on the field-how many football players have you ever seen do this? His sideline singing is not meant for us or public expression. We only hear that because of the mikes there.

Hes absolutely free to do it. No argument there. But IMO, the examples you described are akin to a Christian wearing a cross. No issue. Like I said before, my issue is that he comes across are trying very hard to show everyone how good of a Christian he is. I dont need that when Im watching football. Im willing to bet a lot of the people who love the hyper-religiousness of Tebow would not feel the same if he were unrolling a prayer mat and facing it towards Mecca.

Why does he come across that way I don't get it. You don't think that is just who he is?

If they don't want to hear him say "I would like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" before every interview, then they shouldn't interview him, or you shouldn't watch it.

It's hilarious how much out of his way he goes to NOT push his religion. Just realize it's the media pushing him down your throat that annoys you, and that it's not his fault...he's just a 24 y/o kid who plays with pure passion and is under a MOUNTAIN of pressure.

It's intriguing to me, but he really has become the most influential Christian figure in the US, which makes all the Libs squirm...Who doesn't love that?

I dont even mind a God shout out in an interview though. I just think Tebow pushes the envelope of some people's comfort zones. Well within his rights, but its also well within my rights to find it annoying.

Because how many Christians do you know that make it a point to make their prayers a public display? I feel like he does it for the attention.

He does it because the bible tells him so.

I have tried to stay out of this discussion because it seems juvenile, but really...

tyler, just type "I -hate- another human being because I suspect he's attention whoring. I don't have proof of it, but that's what I think. Oh, and I don't like how his fans act"

Ridiculous, imo, but you are free to -hate- (emphasis because HATE is pretty big) someone for your own issues.

This country practices freedom of religion. Regardless of your personal beliefs on how he conducts himself, or what denomination Tebow belongs to, it is ridiculous to hate someone because of it.

its immature, not ridiculous. In my opinion tyler doesnt hate tebow, i think tylerdolphins is tebows biggest fan in football.:brewskis:

I would have no problem with a Muslim saying thanks to Allah, rolling out a prayer mat and facing Mecca after the game or even reciting parts of the Koran on the sideline. That's their beef and has nothing to do with them as a player. What gets me upset is when people try to change something because of their religion. Let's imagine if a Muslim asked training camp to be changed due to Ramadan. Tebow follows the NFL rules and nobody talks about this, but remember in college when he always had Bible verses on his eye black? Doesn't do it in the NFL; it's against the rules.

Bingo! We have a winner. Also, how many other players are Christian in the league or any other pro sports league? Guess how many. I would think the majority by a substantial margin are Christian. The majority also give to charity, have charity foundations, help underprivileged kids ( like Alonzo Mourning) etc...Tebow is not special because he goes to 3rd world countries or gives to charities, he's special because he likes to make a big deal about it and makes a public display. ( good for him) Many give and start foundations that aren't religious either. Giving has nothing to do with Religion. I give to charities and I'm not religious. (does that make me a saint?)

I think the reason he's so popular is because there are a lot of "Christians" in this country who are closet Christians and are ashamed of it. ( for whatever reason) So here comes Tebow and instead of hiding it or he publicly flaunts it. Kirk Warner also had a large number of haters if you remember for the exact same thing.

On the football side, everyone loves the underdog. How many times have we heard that Tebow will never make it in the NFL blah, blah, blah. Well for this one magical run he has "made" it. ( with God's help?) How many times do we see it? The wildcat also made it for a couple seasons. We know Tebow is probably not going to ever be a good QB in the NFL but its fun to see him play well, because he sucked so much. he actually played really well against Pittsburgh. Of course it helped that Pitt played a defensive scheme that ensured that any complete pass had a great chance of going the distance. Pitt did that because for 3 weeks, Tebow failed with similar schemes and miserably. He made his throws this time and now you know why you never see that type of scheme, it's too risky.

My main concern with Tebow is that since young kids are impressionable that he will further confuse them and it will take longer for them to realize that the fairy tale is not so real. It took me many years to remove the trauma caused by my Sunday school's brainwashing tactics. I mean if God is so compassionate and loving why so much suffering and injustice in the world? I remember the guilt I used to feel and the fear I had of burning in hell. Then when I actually read the Bible, there's no hell but Sheol and there is no devil with a fork and pointy tale. WTH? You mean I don't have to feel guilty about having normal feelings and I can decide what's right or wrong with logic and understanding and compassion. ( instead of having someone telling me what I can or can't do or I will burn in hell) That's a hell of a trip to put on young minds. Now that's freedom from religion.

He has a plan right? Yeah right. If God can't help innocent children from their suffering, God will certainly not help Tebow play a stupid football game. A lot of Americans are also atheist or agnostic ( like myself). It's childish but whatever, I enjoy watching him play so I don't "hate" him, although he is a gator.
