Still more Superbowl appearances and playoff victories than Jake Long, Joe Thomas, Trent Williams, Tyron Smith, and Matt Kalil. Guess that means nobody should ever draft a lineman high?
If you are going to spend a high draft pick on a lineman(which i dont support), then it should be on a left tackle. Ignoring the fact that there probably wont be a left tackle available for us at 19, we just spent $46 million on that position.
Contrary to the myth this website is currently spreading as quickly as possible: the draft isnt there to fix needs. Its there to get talented players. Because teams will always need talented players. Common sense dictates that selecting talented players at impact positions is a lot more valuable then grabbing talented players at positions that rarely make a difference. As well, its been proven over and over again that you can find competent lineman later in the draft.
How many wins did Jake Long get us? How many wins has Mike Pouncey secured for us? We've spent the 1st overall pick, the 15th overall pick, a second round pick, 2 third round picks, a fourth round pick, a sixth round pick, and traded a late round pick for another lineman(and all of this ignores the +$100 million we've spent on free agents) and people still havent learned the lesson yet. We use up all our resources on that position group, run out on the field with former 4th round picks at receiver/tight end, and fans are baffled at why we average 17 points a game. We need playmakers at playmaking positions and the best way to get said playmakers is by grabbing the most talented players we can.
