I get that a majority here would like us to finish with the worst record to get the first pick.
I also get that this team needs new coaching and management.
But someone please explain to me how "Suck for Luck" works.
Is it an every play thing or does it only go in effect at the end of the game ?
Should we cheer fumbles and boo TD passes from Miami ?
Will our favorite players be the ones who screw up the most ?
No more complaning about fans not showing up for home games. Who cares ?
No more "get every good player released " post. Good players could mess up the plan.
After the game will we applaud the good performances? Or want those guys traded.
Setting at a sports bar with my Fins jersey on I'm supposed to stand up and cheer when Sanchez throws a TD pass ? Then boo a Dolphins int ?
Someone please explain the guide lines for Suck for Luck.
Then go on the Jets site and explain it to them. They should really like that one.
NYJunc will have a field day.
I think you're placing more relevance on things that aren't that relevant to begin with. It doesn't matter whether or not you applaud the good plays or not.
It seems as if you think you have to prove to yourself that you're a "real fan", and you would feel like less of a fan if you actually hoped for losses via keeping the bigger picture in mind.
Not me.
I don't have to prove to myself that I'm a fan. Most of us have been through way too much over our time as Dolphins fans, to have to prove it to ourselves now that we indeed, still are. I don't feel like any less of a fan by hoping this team loses out the rest of the season. It's the only avenue I can see that benefits the team in the long run.
There's absolutely not a lick of difference to me between going 1-15 or 0-16. Just like there's not a lick of difference between going 6-10 or 3-13. A few meaningless wins that you won't even remember 3 years from now is nothing compared to having something to look forward to for the next decade+.
I don't typically 'cheer' plays anyway...good or bad. If Miami scores a touchdown, my reaction is somewhere along the lines of "that DB got roasted", "the linebacker took a terrible angle", etc. If Miami gives up a big play, my reaction is somewhere along the lines of "I saw that one coming... they set it up 3 plays ago". That's about it.
When I watch football, I'm typically watching the chess game that's going in between the two teams, and the adjustments that are made (or not made). That's where my enjoyment of watching the game comes from. I realize that's different from typical fans, but that's the coach in me.
If I believe Miami's best chance at becoming relevant again in the NFL involves them losing enough to clean house, and acquire a franchise quarterback....it's always purely from a football perspective. I have no emotional attachment to any player in a Dolphins uniform. I either like the guy as a player/person, or I don't. Simple as that.
I either believe a player has aspects of his game that can improve through coaching, or weaknesses that can be attributed to inexperience, etc... or I don't.
If I didn't like a guy as a Steeler or Bronco, etc.... I didn't suddenly start liking him when he came to Miami and put a Dolphins cap on his head.
Same deal with the coach. I either believe in the guy's coaching ability, or I don't. Same with the GM. Same with the owner.
The bottom line is, there is no right or wrong way to "Suck for Luck". Similar to how there's no right or wrong way to watch a football game.
The difference is, I
KNOW why I look at things the way I do, and why I feel the way that I feel. I don't need for someone else's approval first. None of it is based on being a fan, how to be a fan, what a fan is supposed to be, etc., etc.
I believe that I have as 'unemotional' of an outlook on Miami Dolphins football as a person can possibly have, which is why I tend to have the utmost confidence in my outlook one way or the other.
It's football to me.
