Sports Buzz- Pats asked Thigpen for hand signals/ More Harbaugh talk

Putting Philbin on the same level as Rex is absurd. He went to back to back championship games with Mark fricken Sanchez at QB.

As average as Tannehill has been in his career, he has never been as bad as Sanchez.

If Philbin had Sanchez at QB the past 2 years the Dolphins wouldn't have had a record higher than 5-11...

The credit goes to the defense and run game at that point in time. Any coach would have looked horrible with Sanchez at QB with the other factors being displaced.

Yes, I forgot that Tannehill is already proven to be a hall of fame inductee in waiting, how silly of me. One has a career high of 78 passer rating and the other 81, myswell be a Dan Marino vs Cleo Lemon comparison. And in the playoffs Sanchez has a 94 passer rating, that is actually really good. Dalton on the other hand averages 54 passer rating in the playoffs. One is a gamer, one is not.

If I'm Harbaugh, 3 Jobs intrigue me.. Dolphins, Jets & Colts. Most realistic spot get complete control is Miami. Ownership loves Harbs.

Mots realistic spot is right back in SF

Didn't he use to play QB for the Colts ?
Don't forget to throw Michigan in there as well.

If Philbin fails i've said I wanted a guy with playoff wins on his resume. Harbaugh would be interesting but not my first choice. He's good for a few solid seasons before this personality gets the best of him.

As good a coach I think Harbaugh is I have reservations about how successful any coach can be running a one man show. It seems being overworked can be a huge problem, even for the best of them.

Totally Agree.
No more on the job training. Get some one on the upswing with an actual track record as a HC.

Yes please. Someone who commands respect from his team, GM, and staff, and has been in that head coach role through 60 minutes of a game. No more "what will the locker-room be like?" or "getting used to the draft process / offseason OTAs / preseason?"
Someone who has a coaching style, sticks with it consistently, and won't search for answers desperately when faced with an issue.

I've still got some faith in Philbin but he can't afford to bumble anymore. He's got to own this job and get this team to the playoffs with all it takes. No more excuses or distractions.

No doubt, but that's what I'm saying, Rex was able to go to back to back championship games with subpar QB play. Philbin couldn't even make the playoffs with average QB play and a comparable defense to Jets'.

The way I see it is our organization is headed in the right direction right now, get a QB, whether that be Tannehill coming alive, or a vet reclamation project or a young stud and it'll take a major ****tard to screw up what Philbin and Hickey have started. In other words as long as we stay away from Tony Sparano, Jason Garrett, or Dennis Allain types we should be fine with like 85% of all the candidates. As long as we get a QB.

The offensive line Ryan inherited at NY was one of the best in the NFL. Woody, Faneca and the addition of LT made things real simple for Snatchez and Rexy.

If we have to make a coaching change the whole "get a proven coach" mentality is kind of poor. Now granted, if a guy like one of the Harbaughs become available you sniff around, a but outside of that are there any former NFL coaches that are realistic or appealing? Gary Kubiak? Maybe. The other names are guys that have not coached in a long time. I guess you can go the college route and look at guys like Kevin Sumlin or David Shaw but that's also a huge risk to take (though I think Shaw with NFL coaching experience would be okay).

Dan Quinn on paper is a guy that absolutely should be work a look. Still a young coach that has been in the NFL for over a decade learning under some very good defensive minds. I'm not a huge Dirk Koetter guy but he's rebuilt his stock in the pros so interviewing him wouldn't be bad, I personally wouldn't go for him for other reasons but that's not my decision.

There are just has many "proven" coaches that fail during their second run as a head coach as there are failures for first time coaches. And while I do think it's premature to consider firing Philbin at 2-2, when I get home from work I'll do what I've done in the past and compile a list of guys I think would deserve a look and give background on them. Some may not be appealing, some may be.

1. Unless sub-par and average are interchangeable words for you both Sanchez and Tannehill should be described the same way.

2. 11-5 with sub-par QB play is impressive. Beating the Painter led Colts team to back in at 8-8 is not that impressive. Getting to back to back championship games is impressive but Sanchez played good in the playoffs which speaks to what I said earlier, give Rex Ryan a Russell Wilson and he would be a championship caliber head coach.

3. I believe the same of Philbin. As impressive as the one 11-5 season was for Rex he hasn't come close to replicating it with similar QB play, and it doesn't look like he's close to ever doing it again. We were one play or one good QB performance away from winning several games more games last year, we could have easily been 11-5 or 12-4 with a little luck, or amazing plays by our QB at the end of a few games. When you have a sub-par QB you have no choice but to deal with this type of extreme variance. And as I pointed out, Sanchez's playoff passer rating and record indicates he's a gamer, he has the ability to step up his game as the pressure gets ratcheted up. Is Tannehill a gamer or is he more of an Andy Dalton?

Honestly after watching the Lions and Bears the last couple of weeks I'm not as worried about their QB's. Cutler and Stafford each have about 3 or 4 WTF throws each game. As a defense the Fins just need to capitalize on them.

What does worry me is the WR's they are throwing to going against our smaller DB's. Our CB's could have a tough time matching up with those physical specimens.

And then there's the Thomas Bros in Denver... that's gonna be ugly.

I call it unethical but to each their own. What Belichick is doing is forcing the league to do something else to curb this behavior, which is going to hurt teams or players that would have signed with an upcoming opponent but for coincidental legitimate reasons. Belichick doesn't give a rats ass about making things difficult for everybody else so long as he benefits.

Its no different than if a team tanks to get a surefire QB in the draft, everything is fine as is but if just one team decides ethics are for the birds then it all has to be changed.

Do you honestly think that the Patriots are the only team that if they sign a guy asks about the team they played for.
