Sunday Ticket without Directv?

Well, they must be catching on to my game. This year, I have to pay $100 for Sunday Ticket; best I could do, even after two calls. Technically, I think I can still say I got it for free because they also gave me $35 a month off my bill for one year and Showtime free for six months.

All said, I will save $320 over the next year and watch the Dolphins win 6-9 games this year so I suppose I will call that a win.

I called yesterday. Told them I havent gotten a sunday ticket discount in ten years and I have been a customer for 20. Said I was sick of hearing about current customers getting a deal while in addition to new customers, so I want it for free. The guy looked at my account and said there was nothing he could do. After I told him, he will do something or I will cancel he immediately transferred me to the cancellation dept. RUDE!

After speaking with the rep there he didnt give me the ticket for free but instead offered me a 240.00 Visa giftcard or 20 off a month for 12 months (I took the 20 for 12). In addition I got a free genie upgrade with free install, 2 free receivers and free activation. Dude said it was a 400.00 upgrade for free. I also got the service for 3 dollars a month. I guess its originally 20.

So all in all not a bad call.

Hint: Direct TV representatives can not give NFL ticket for free. They can/may offer it, but can not approve it. You must talk to their NFL office to receive an approval.

Trick: If you can get said Direct TV representative to offer it via telephone (usually by mistake), then you have it recorded thru your telephone conversation. You can then contact Direct TV's NFL offices, mention the conversation and they will be obligated to give it to you for free (usually by pestering to talk to a supervisor who eventually will grant it to your account).

Here is what I am doing, I am testing 1 more time this Thursday to confirm its works well.

- Get a Private VPN (i use privateinternetaccess.com)
- Set your location to UK London on the Private VPN
- Go to NFL Gamepass website and signup, they will see your location is in the UK so they will offer you packages to stream games for $100+ a season.

I tested it on Saturday with their 7 day free trial and it worked great, i hooked up my laptop to my TV and it was great. You can get a team season pass for like $119 US dollars. When you put in your credit card info it is ok to put your current address, as long as your location on the VPN is set to the UK when you fire up the website / stream, you will be good to go.

Best alternative to DirecTV I could find.

The approach is definitely not to demand things..I call every year and never have an issue. This year I told them I had a bundle offer from a cable provider that I wanted to sign up for, wasn't aggressive at all, complimented the service and then joked about how high my bill is - I have premier package and sports subscriptions...

Long story short, they sent me 2 new Genie receivers, took 100$ off of my bill for a year, free sunday ticket and mentioned that if I ever feel my bill is too high, to call back. Directv generally has fantastic customer service, so if you really had a rude encounter, call back and ask for the retention department.

No one should pay for sunday ticket!

I've been doing that this year using Tunnelbear, since it's cheap, easy, reliable and doesn't slow my internet down much. I've had a few hiccups during games but nowhere near as bad as using Sunday Ticket online like I've done the past 5 years. Other than the hiccups I get most of the game in HD and it's awesome. Plus being able to go back and watch condensed and coaches film of the games is pretty awesome.

And I don't know about this being "illegal", especially not since I bought the $260 package to get everything. The only reason this isn't offered to us in the states is because of DirecTV's monopoly.

If you have DirecTV Sunday Ticket Max, you can watch tonight's Dolphins game live on your mobile device. They want to test their system for the rush of week 1.

Meh, thanks to beer specials at $3-$4/beer at the bar I typically go to and the 2-3 beers I have per game, it's pretty easy actually. Of course, the couple of games a year I choose to watch at home (usually 3-4, though it used to be more when this team was worth watching) negate any of the times I go over that amount (the rare occasion I buy food or more beer). Do I need to do the math for you or can you handle it? Meh, I'll do it for you. Taking the high end of those averages and assuming I watch every single game at a bar: $4 x 3 beers x 16 games = $192. So, in that occasion, which never happens, I would go over $200, but only because I'm a very good tipper.
None of that accounts for the fun factor either. That comes free though.

While I call BS on your spending habits, ( I find it hard to believe especially in Brooklyn NY) I fully agree the atmosphere at a bar is more fun. But, I would rather be home when we lose.
In the end all we want to do is watch the team play.
How you accomplish this feat is up to you.
I like DirectV and will watch from the comfort of my living room for under $14 a game.
I could never expect to get off that easy in a bar.
And that sir is just my opinion.

Slingbox for me this year. No more DirecTV and their non-HD feeds for me this year.

I cannot understand how anyone can have Cable or satelight, a big screen HD TV and not get HD channels?
Every NFL game is available in HD.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't have the Max package, but my BIL does.

You can't be so direct about it. Try being more vaugue like "is there anything you can do for me" and say you're thinking about pursuing other options because you could save a lot of money by bundling your TV, internet and phone withy your local cable company.

If that fails, ask to talk to the retention department and do the same song and dance to them.

That's how I got mine free this year.

The Sunday Ticket streaming option is limited to your internet speed but also their bandwidth seems to limit the signal, so even at its highest "quality" setting it's not HD.

I thought about that after the call. IN the end when I told the guy how rude the first guy was he offered me all that other stuff, although I had to sign a two year contract, which by the looks of it DTV is keeping the sunday ticket so I wont be going anywhere in two years anyways.
