Support For Joe Philbin

Many folks love mediocrity around here.

Who do you want as HC that would lead us out of mediocrity?

You dont know. And you have no balls to make a statement in regards to this because all you want to do is be a hardass about something you actually have no clue about.

Who do you think would actually take this job and take us to promised land? Dont you f'n back out either!

I'm just not a guy who will poo poo everything in site like alot of you on here do. Its always the same suspects too. You have no clue who you would want as HC let alone accept some reality as to long term success. You just badmouth every friggin thing you can. So here we have our controversy and the bugs come crawling out from the corner. just like always.

My point is that to some of us the signs are already apparent. I put my teal glasses aside many years ago. You can go on and play the "everything is rosy in Finland" part. I just can't bury my head in the sand that far and my eyes are wide open. Under the current regime, this team isn't likely to go anywhere. Ross needs to identify the best non-GM football guy out there and overpay him to come in here and fix this hot mess. And if he hires a really well-qualified GM and that guy chooses to keep Philbin, so be it. But given the circus that's going on, I doubt he'd be retained. Yes, I know you disagree.

Bet the backstabbers will be hoping we lose in TBay...real team players. Kick your own while they're down.

What signs? Please enlighten me. Im so blind I need refinement. teach me master.

"Master"... I like that.

Well young grasshopper, let's start with the coaching staff he's assembled. We have a very inexperienced quarterback and Philbin hired a very inexperienced quarterback coach to teach him. Nepotism trumped necessity in that case. Next, he hired Mike Sherman to call the offense and Sherman just isn't very good at play-calling.

Let's move on... stay with me here, grasshopper. It's Sunday, October 20th. The Miami Dolphins, after starting 3-0, are now 3-2 having lost the previous two games. We can right the ship though. We have a bye-week and all that extra time to prepare for a division game at home against the Bills. Division games being incredibly important and often a deciding factor in making the playoffs, we expect the Dolphins to come out fired up and beat the Bills. We expect our new coach to have this team primed, pumped, and prepared to smack the Bills in the mouth and raise our hands in victory when the ref blows the last whistle of the day. But it doesn't happen that way. Instead of being pumped to beat a division rival on our home turf, we come out flat and uninspired. And we lose. Despite having an extra week to prepare, we lose to an inferior division opponent.

Come grasshopper, let's travel to the next hill, shall we? We have an offensive guard who has managed to make himself unwelcome at every goddamned stop in his football career. The man has serious character flaws and left to his own devices can find trouble the way a hound can find a fox. Everything about this guy's history indicates that he needs some kind of mentor or at least someone to nudge him in the right direction. But instead of setting that man up to succeed, Philbin allows him to assume a leadership role on a young team. Philbin set him up to fail.

Now sit, my young apprentice, and contemplate these words: One does not have to live with the wasp to know it's nature if one has seen a wasp before.
In peace, I leave you now.
And make sure my car is washed in the morning.

still waiting for the ever intriguing "deathstar" to tell me something real.

Hey, remember when you were excited about Jimmy Johnson, Dave Wannstedt, Nick Saban, Cam Cameron, and Tony Sparano?

I knew Sparano was a fool the second he fist pumped a meaningless field goal, which was corroborated by his horrible clock and timeout management, including calling a valuable timeout after a turnover at the end of a half.

I can't begrudge anybody for believing in Wanndstedt for a while , Wannyball won games even with a mediocre at best QB. He did have pretty bad timeout/clock management too though.

Jimmy Johnson and Nick Saban: two of the best football coaches of our era.

Joe Philbin: With the information we have I don't see how any reasonable person can write him off as a bad coach. I'm not saying your wrong because, quite frankly, you have the odds in your favor but lets take a look at what we know: Ireland is a tool, that fact alone muddies the waters when trying to evaluate the job Philbin's done. The team continued to play hard on a drama filled short week. His clock/timeout management has been impeccable, anybody that says otherwise is clueless. And the coaching staff got a lot of the credit for the first 3 wins, which seems like ages ago.

Having said that if you look around the league good coaches find ways to have winning seasons year in-year out. Philbin is already 0-1 in that department and if he falls to 0-2 its a big red flag and should be fired. Other finishes:

8-8 Meh. Probably should go after the 3-0 start.
9-7 Will most likely be fired as a byproduct of a major housecleaning but I wouldn't like it
10-6 Big mistake to fire him but still wouldn't surprise me.

FYI, "grasshopper" isn't an insult; it's a reference to an old tv show from the early 70s called "Kung Fu."

he definitely needs to do two things at least to be considered a good coach in the long haul.

1. Ryan Tannehill get more like Aaron Rogers over this season to next season (he may not be around from this mess to see this)
2. Beat Patriots in Miami while on the way to making playoffs whether its a 8-8 9-7 or 10-6.

Can't argue this, it seemed like a good idea at the time to bring on some of the guys that Tannehill was comfortable with but Sherman has been pretty disappointing.

Ireland. Ireland assembled a mediocre team. The Bills are a mediocre team. I don't care who the head coaches are for either team, no mediocre team will beat another mediocre team 100% of the time even with the bye week, home field and them having a back up QB advantages. We can argue about odds but I would say they win at least 1 in 20 given the situation, which, if you gamble or you play any amount of poker you would realize overcoming 20-1 odds is not as rare as you would like. 'Thats why they play the game' as it were.

.

Ireland again. I think its pretty clear somebody in the organization was unhappy with the status of our o-line. . We signed Lance Louis. We tried to resign Long. We drafted a guard pretty high. We tried to trade for a tackle. We signed Clabo. We signed another guard. And finally we did trade for a left tackle. I think based on all of this you can reasonably assume that Philbin asked for competent replacement options at every position on the line except center and, once again, Ireland failed miserably to deliver on that request.

Its really a lose lose for Philbin, he gets rid of one trouble maker in Marshall and and people lament with "you can't have all angels". And I'm sure philbin was hoping for better replacement options than Legadu Nanee and Egnew. Thanks Jeff.

So perhaps he learned a lesson and (possibly) asked for a replacement for another trouble maker in Richie Incognito but this time he would wait and see what Ireland gives him before cutting Richie, as insurance. And Ireland gave him Dallas Thomas...

And people still blame him, this time for keeping a trouble maker.
