While I agree with you that most fans do not get what "market value means" they (the fans) are looking through blue collar glasses that think 19 million in guaranteed money is too much for anyone to be paid. Most work like dogs with only a 2 week vacation and 35-50k a year. Anything with a million in it is too much for them to fathom.



Seeing what top pro athletes are being paid is where the backlash is coming from.



This is not about Ronnie being greedy he is simply asking what the "market" has deemed his pay should be. Now if he was asking for 40 million in guaranteed money that would be a reason to blast him.



The issue is about what pro athletes are paid in general not about Ronnie!



I think the Dolphins knew the game and are being too difficult in negotiations. They knew what he was going to be paid before they even drafted him.



IMO guaranteed money in pro sports should go away. If the athletes want to be protected in case of injury they should buy insurance policies like the rest of us in society. ONLY CEO's and pro athletes have that luxury now.

3 million is a lot of money to be apart on. I'd hold out for 3 million. 3 million is 3 million. Dont get hung up on percentages.
 
exactly. the extra 3 million is what it costs Huizenga for letting us have a crappy season last year.

I agree with that.

All in all, I am just trying to open some eyes of people who say Ronnie should get paid and look at the Team like the evil Empire or something.

I am looking at it from the Dolphins point of view.

If the guy produces and he doesnt get paid then thats a problem.

It's funny how no one ever said anything about how screwed RW was getting it BEFORE obviously he did that mess of retiring and smoking the fatty.

Everyone was pretty quiet back then enjoying a great RB, gaining well over 3,000 rushing yards and getting paid ALOT LESS than this untested rookie wants.

The owners cannot do what they want. They have a salary cap to worry about and have to pay league minimum salaries. They do have a certain amount of discretion, but you can say the same thing about the people who manage different branches of the same bank.

You're right that an owner can make a decision about not wanting to pay a RB as much as he would a QB. The players can also make decisions. If the owner drafts a RB and lowballs him, that RB can refuse to sign and can go back into the next year's draft. If the owner has a RB he did manage to sign who becomes a free agent, the player can refuse to sign. The owner has certain tools provided by the business such as the franchise tag he can use, but the player can still hold out. If the owner won't pay a free agent RB from another team what he is worth, that player will sign with a team that will pay him.

If you're going to laud Wayne (and those he employs) for making decisions, why are you so upset that Ronnie is making decisions? A contract is a meeting of the minds of two parties who agree to an exchange of things of value to the parties. Without two willing parties making decisions that they believe to be best for them, there is no process.

I wonder the effects of Alexander and Edge NOT getting massive contracts; although they're proven employees with excellent track record.

The way I read Miami's front office. They won't buckle due SF's stupidity.

Let me try to make this analogy valid...

This is like me interviewing for a company as a technical writer and DEMANDING 20% more than a C++ Developer got hired for at a DIFFERENT COMPANY a year earlier.

Your analogy doesn't fit because that company doesn't have a SLOTTED system and salary cap that applies to all positions. Ronnie is playing well within the rules that the NFL laid out. Position does not matter in the draft and it's payment. Only the draft slot did.

He's not going to take a bad deal just because your pissed he's not in camp. Guess what folks. The team nor the players give a damn about the fact you believe they should be in camp and lose millions because 'you' don't like it.

You all should have seen this coming the day we got the #2 pick.

Of course, but unless I am mistaken the Rookie Salary Cap doesn't say the number 1 pick can make from $a-$b, and the number 2 pick makes from $c-$d etc.
