It's bothersome that Miami's own fan base criticizes Tannehill at unrealistic levels. He's a second year player who did not have the same experience level as many of the other quarterbacks had when they came out.
Tannehill stands tough in the pocket, and critically, he keeps his eyes downfield with the pocket collapsing around him. He has a strong arm and toughness. He is a bright guy and studies hard. He will get better. His leadership is demonstrably getting stronger. None of these attributes has a darn thing to do with statistics. There are statistics and damn lies. But Tannehill is going to go from 12 TDs to over 20 this season. Next season, it should go from there.
Listen to this morning's Bill Polian interview with Joe Rose. Polian talked about how Peyton and Marvin Harrison missed deep throws their first year together. After that season, they developed the timing. That's what will happen with Mike Wallace. As Polian explained, last off season, Wallace was simply trying to learn new routes, terminology, etc., in a new system. During the season, they are installing game plans, etc. It will be this coming off season where Wallace and Tannehill will improve their timing.
You can also expect a big improvement in pass pro with new personnel. Since Tannehill is so tough hanging in the pocket even while it collapses, imagine what he will do with a more safe pocket.
I also expect Tannehill to get better coaching. He can work on pre-snap reads and looking off receivers, and I question his coaching, particularly from Zak Taylor, in these regards.
The result: Tannehill should be a 25 TD plus qb next season and we should see many more 30 point games. He has the bona fides.
