Tebow will be starting against us on "Gator Day" in OUR stadium

Its a slap in their face as its actually the 10th and 20th anniversaries of TWO of Miami's National Championships. Why is it so important to honor the Gators 2 year old National Championship and especially pick out the day that Tim Tebow is to be there ?

Nublar you look bad trying to defend the defenseless. Just quit while you still have some self-respect.
The Dolphins offered to make it a Hurricanes day to honor those championships you mentioned. THE HURRICANES DECLINE THE INVITATION. So, do you go to the next school in Florida and sell maybe 2,000 to 4,000 extra tickets for a halftime event, or do you just have a dog catching a frisbee as the entertainment?

First off, this is NOT a Tim Tebow day as some think it is. They are celebrating the Gators national championship as a gimmick to attract more fans in Florida during the Gators bye week. When this day was set up, it was not even certain if Tebow was going to be on the Broncos roster, let alone starting. If you consider this Tim Tebow day, you might as well call it Mike Pouncey day also, since both are being recognized for their accomplishments in COLLEGE. This is NOTHING like a Tom Brady day, this is a celebration that has NOTHING to do with the NFL.

If the Dolphins had their way, this would have been Hurricanes day, but the Miami Hurricanes DECLINED the invitation. Sure it is a gimmick to get more fans in the stadium. The fans haven't been able to fill the stadium for well over a decade. Sure they may not be bringing in Dolphins fans, but I don't think 2,000 Gator fans are going to make a huge dent in the crowd. Opposing fans already fill a large part of the stadium, and people have told me they don't have a problem with it. Not sure why they would now.

I have also been told that winning cures all, so as long as the Dolphins start winning fans will fill the stadium and no one will care about this Gatros day in the future. Though if it does become a long term problem, I am sure Ross knows there is a nice new stadium being built in Los Angeles with some very hungry football fans. But we will cross that bridge when/if we have to.

This is almost a nyjunc level spin job. Lets look at the facts here:

1. Miami is Cane territory. Gainesville is not even in South Florida. Hell, its not even Central Florida. Why the ever loving **** do us South Floridians give three ****s about whether the Gators won a championship a couple years ago? Most of us dont. Matter of fact, most of us hate the Gators. Let me know when the Jags have a ceremony honoring the Canes. It wont happen. Why? Nobody up there cares. People up there are Gators/Noles fans. They hate the Canes.

2. With that being said, how can you put a true number on how this impacted ticket sales? You can see that 3k people bought tickets because of it. How many didnt because of it? I know a few people who feel that way and I was thinking about going down for the game, but now I definitely am not. And it extends beyond this week. Whats the impact of this decision on future sales? Does proving to be totally incompetent and pathetic as an owner suddenly inspire people to buy seats? Nope.

3. We will become a bigger laughing stock than ever before. And thats saying a lot. We are like the Dan Marino of laughing stocks. We set records and then blow them out the water. Unreal. How much you wanna bet that we are featured on PTI and Around the Horn leading up to that game with the hosts getting LOLs at our expense. Talk show hosts are gonna have a field day with this. It really is hilarious if it were not us. If the Jets did something this stupid Id be trolling nyjunc nonstop right now. Im sure being ridiculed and mocked will improve future ticket sales. Thats just genius.

4. I dont give a damn if Tebow wasnt a lock for the roster at the time. We knew damn well that the Broncos were on our schedule and we knew damn well that there was a non-zero chance that Tebow wuld be starting that game. That fact alone makes it utterly retarded to even higher degrees.

5. I get that we happen to have a championship Gator. Cool. I seriously dont give a ****, but cool. Good for him. Im sure he had fun. That does not change the fact that the undisputed star and leader of that team is the starting QB on the team we are playing that day. Half them inbred Gator fans cant even tell you who was on that team except Tebow. His fans will be out in full force. For someone who claims to despise opposing fans at our stadium, you are being hypocritical to the 56th power. Honestly, its not different than Tom Brady Day at all. When people think Gators NC, they think Tebow. He was the QB, the star. Pouncey was the LG. Most Gator fans dont even care. Nobody cares. He was not willing his team to victory like Tebow. Im willing to bet you see more Tebow jerseys than just about any other play that week.

In short, spin it how you like, but we are honoring Tebow and the crowd will reflect it. Tebow/Broncos bandwagon fans are gonna out in full force. People in the Miami area despise that team. The promotion is retarded. End of story.

And **** the Gators.

Make it a pig catching a frisbee and you have a deal.

Ill take the frisbee dog.

Nublar, I usaully see eye to eye with you, but to me this is a big stretch. It may be just a halftime event, but broadcasters will call this Tebow day, and they will go crazy with the coincidence that this will be Tebow's first start this year. They will prop it up and pound on it. If he makes a td, they will correlate it to "his" day.
I knnow what is being said about a meaningless halftime salute, but it won't be.
I find it interesting that this game was offered to the Hurricanes (Orange / Green colors) and then to the Gators, (Orange and Blue). If I didn't know better, Id say Ross and co. are trying to make the stadium look like it's full of ORANGE shirts. Wheather it be Gator orange, Bronco orange, Dolphin orange or Cane orange.
If that's true it's just hard up to fill the statium for the wrong reasons.
Win and fans are in.

Firstly, the Hurricanes were NOT given the chance until after the Gators had been given theirs 1st. It was back in July and the 1st invite went out to the Gators. So lets be honest about the timeline. 2ndly why should the Hurricanes do a "celebration" with the Dolphins ? The Hurricanes will have their own celebrations for their 2 teams that have anniversaries this year on what would be normal years (10th and 20th) instead of just a 2 year anniversary. 3rdly Why should any NFL team honor a college team ? It just shows the desperation from the Dolphins front office. Nat Moore saw an opportunity and I don't blame him, he is after all a dyed in the wool Gator and a senior member of the Dolphins front office. I do think, however, some smarter heads should have seen the firestorm this would cause. How could they be so stupid as to not see how this would anger and upset Hurricanes fans and many of those same Hurricanes fans are also Dolphins season ticket holders.

Then you think back to who are these people in the front office of the Dolphins - many of them have followed Mike Dee from the Boston Red Sox front office. Think about it, these people have little to ZERO experience trying to sell tickets. The Red Sox have a waiting list for every ticket in that stadium. A bunch of gorillas & chimps could still have that stadium sold out. These folks have never had to really work to get seats sold and they just don't have the experience needed to work in an NFL office. That is Mike Dee's fault, and he should have more experienced people working under him. He is one of the main culprits and according to reports is the one that signed off on this Tim Tebow Worship Day. His *** is the one I want fired 1st, even before Sparano or Ireland.

Because it was a STUPID idea to begin with. The Hurricanes will celebrate their own championships during their own halftimes.

C'mom lets be real here.

You don't know a single thing about LA, do you? Why don't you have tickets to this game? Not much of a fan if you ask me. And don't give me the excuse about being too far away. It's as valid as all the reasons the stadium (rarely) doesn't sell out that you conveniently ignore.

Now back to kicking your dead mule about the bad local fan base, blah blah blah. Maybe we should merge this into a giant super thread too?

Might as well, because they clearly don't know how to provide entertaining football to watch.

And how many teams has LA had and lost? Miami has had the Fins since the get go and they have been very well supported until recently. Even in 08, when we won a few games the stadium was solid. I can attest to that. The Pats game that year had very few empty seats and I almost got stuck in the parking lot because it was so hard to find a scalper with available tickets. My group of 4 ended up on different sides of the stadium it was so full and hard to get a ticket that day.

You only had a group of four? Gawd awful fans.

Dee said the Hurricanes declined a similar proposal to honor the 10th anniversary of UM's last national championship during a Dolphins game this season.

"They politely declined and said that they were going to do something to honor that team at one of their own home games," Dee said. "We reached out to both schools at about the same time in early to mid July."
