The Black-Out Threads....

I don't know about anyone else...But I have a hard time spending 6 or 7 bucks for an adult beverage when I can by 12 of them for the same price at the 7-11...I stopped going to Rock Concerts when they started charging 40 bucks a ticket....I stopped watching Boxing when they started charging 40 bucks to watch it...And I stopped going to Football games when they started charging 50 bucks a ticket...So I would never criticize anyone for not going to a game but would compliment them on being wise for not throwing their money away.

well said, very well said.

okay, fine, truce.

I'm a bit nervous over my ability to succeed in a debate with a college boy anyhow. One in a Stats class no less!!! I was 25 when I got my Masters degree. How you like them apples?

Ok fine, now I'll stop. I'm just teasing with you anyway, I had to take that class too.

GO FINS.

Bottomline, I really enjoyed BLITZKRIEG's post. Glad we are bringing attention to it with all these silly smack talking posts. Hope I'm not bugging anybody.

Teams don't buy up remaining tickets, big companies do.....

I've never heard of any team owner buying up remaining tickets just to have it televised. Maybe they do it in Buffalo, but I've never heard of that happening....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Jerry Richardson (owner) used to buy up tickets to lift blackouts in Charlotte.

First, I've been a Dolphins fan for 22 years and the Panthers (Charlotte area) have been around for 10 and i am not going to bail on the team I grew up rooting for. Second, the "why don't you MOVE to Miami" statement is a true case of ignorance. Sure, let me up root my life for a professional football team. Makes perfect sense  . That's just terribly stupid statement.

PRECISELY.. And so is every stupid comment regarding going to games if you live int he Miami area.. If people dont have the means, whats the problem? And if you live in West Palm, its an entire day process.. Im just sick of out of towners griping about locals.. It sickens me and reeks of hipocracy(sp?) If you dont live in So.Fla, you dont have room to talk regarding the situation imo..

Was this directed towards me???...

I live in Ft. Lauderdale, have been a fan since birth, and have been a season tocket holder for over a decade now...

PHINZ RULE!!!

I dont know where you live since you dont have it listed, I assumed you lived in California or something.. Regardless, my statement goes for anyone griping who lives outside the area.

i know high school nerds that could own me in a debate. age isn't always a prereq for intelligence or debating skills. anyways, my main point is that my reasoning behind not going to the game is A. a 2 hour drive B. my simple dislike for dade and broward county for that matter. C. the ridiculously unhealthy florida sun. and finally D. the Absurd cost of attending. if anyone would like to give me free tickets i would love to go.

To the Jills fan that asked:

The problem is there are roughly a few thousand seats remaining unsold.
The team retains plenty of tickets. They use them for various things: players families, front office people, and many tickets are charitably donated to various groups. I would imagine the other 31 teams do the same thing. The teams won't be buying up the remaining thousands of tickets. The local CBS (4) station and its large gameday advertisers would be the ones with the incentive to buy up these seats. The threshold for it to make business sense is likely somewhere around a couple 1000 seats. But even that is pushing it.

capecoralfinfan,

email me your name & address - greatwade@gmail.com

I'll send you a free ticket sometime during the season. How's that for a truce.
Now get back to studying for your stats class if you ever want to be able to afford a ticket package :)

thanks for the info, but i have asked around and found that Ralph Wilson (the bills owner) has, in the past, baught the remaining tickets to lift the blackout. (it was thanksgiving a few years back, i think...) and as another poster said, the charlotte owner has done the same.

so i guess its not really a "way to make money", but is a nice thing to do for your fans.

EDIT: also, Ralph baught the tickets from the bills ticket office, and donated them to local hospitals and whatever.... then gets a tax writeoff for donating the tickets.:D

well said and I agree. the last person who should be complaining about a blackout is someone who has done nothing to prevent it to begin with.

Uh, excuse me, but the bulk of NFL money comes from tv, I sit through the commercials and am influenced by them and support the advertisers that pay the bills. The direct TV and Sunday ticket people, etc should be especially pissed as they are paying directly for access to these games. The NFL owners benefit from their monopoly and exception to the anti-trust laws, and then have the cojones to beg for public money for their stadiums. Amazing, but what's more amazing is that we let them get away with it. Bottom line is if the tv industry pays for the access to the games, they ought to be able to broadcast it to the people that are probably their best audience (local fans), which would give them better ratings, which would allow them to charge more for advertising as a return on their investment to carry the games in the first place!
Honestly, the game being blacked out creates animosity towards the team on my part, not a desire to support them.

i'm not planning on being a florida resident any longer than my stay in college, and i'm not sure i'd want seattle seahawk season tickets. also, thank you for your generous offer. i was only joking with my debate generating jabs.

Can anyone tell me whether the Miami vs. Denver game has been blacked out?
