The Dion Jordan Selection May Have Sealed Ireland's Fate

I sure as hell hope there isn't more to it. hell a medical staff screwup letting him onto the field too soon is bad enough.

i'm not so much worried about letting the kid play early although if that did anything to harm his long term playing career then yeah i'm ticked off too...i'm though more worried about this kid having something in his shoulder possibly and i stress possibly we missed and him being damaged goods period for the long haul...

like this is something we will deal with for his entire career and something that will shorten his career...or even end it

Dion Jordan is expected to start practicing again this week and be back for week 1(when the games actually matter). He will make an impact this season, as will many others in this year's draft class. You say only Sturgis will have an impact, yet Will Davis has been ripping it up in practice and the preseason. Dion Sims might be "starting" in week 1 and guys like Taylor and possibly even Thomas will have a role this season.

Are you in "doomsday" mode because Jordan is missing some camp time with his injury? I don't really care if he is missing time and is only a 3rd down pass rusher this season. Why? Well, because that is what I saw him as the day he was drafted. An Aldon Smith type player as a rookie. He doesn't need to be a starter from day one, and his talent and long term prospects trumps any other player Miami could have had if they stayed at 12.

Agreed. Plus, Ireland did not give up the farm to acquire Jordan.

How, by the way, is the CB the Raiders drafted @ 12 doing?

That's what I'm thinking as well. I wonder if the Raiders medical staff might've found that 'something' and that's why they let us get this great deal for the 3rd pick.

To trade from #12 to #3 for only a second round pick is a steal. Because Jordan is so athletic he can afford to miss a little time an be put in situations where he can contribute until he is mentally ready to be a starter. Jamar Taylor doesn't need to contribute now but later in the season he does. Dion Sims can contribute more after the Keller injury. Our draft class doesn't have to contribute week 1 but week 8 we will need them to start to step up.

Jeff Ireland brought everybody in the building to the Scouting Combines this year because he knew how important this Draft was. As we all know, the Dolphins owned the 12th overall pick. The Dolphins also had 2 picks in the second round. He traded up to get Dion Jordan who had and still has a bad shoulder, giving up a high 2nd round pick in the process. At this point none of this years Draft picks will make an impact on this team with the exception of K-Celeb Sturgis. If the Miami Dolphins finish with a record any worse than 10-6, please make a case as to why he should get a new contract.

This might actually be the dumbest most uneducated post I have ever read on this site. Not a single snap into the regular season and you are already calling this entire draft a bust.

The Jordan selection should not be a barometer on whether he should get fired. His entire time as GM 2008 through the end of this season should be a gauge for determining to extend him or not. I personally feel if the team does not break .500 there is no reason in the world to extend a GM that went 5 straight seasons without fielding a winning product. We go 9-7 and no playoffs evaluate how u feel about him thoroughly and make a decision. Make Playoffs extend him two years . I didn't agree with trading up to get Jordan a player who just never seemed a special player to me in college( a very good one but not third pick in draft good) but its not like people haven't taken players before throughout the league that didn't produce at that position. I don't like taking injured players that high in draft unless they were dominant in college and even then u can find an uninjured guy that was. Im not writing off Jordan because he could be a special player and in week 3 of preseason its way too early to know what kind of player he will be.

Some people on this board wanted us to take him I personally don't like using 1st round picks on injured players ala Ted Ginn.

Any information out there on Jamar Taylor? I know he is coming back from that hernia surgery slowly and there is no need to rush, but I have heard absolutely nothing regarding him which is concerning.

He played in the Texans game.

One thing that gets overlooked is how and why they selected Jordon. Ross says he asked all of the coaches if they could have ANYONE in the draft, who would it be. He said the consensus among the coaches was Dion Jordan, and he instructed Ireland to try an get him. So....there was clearly a lot of input about Dion Jordon from all camps in the FO. If Jordan succeeds or fails, it likely wont be credited to Ireland internally. Only the fans on the outside will look at Ireland at the guy who decided on Jordan.

A thought I had to tonight when the ESPN special was airing tonight and they were talking about Chip Kelly's quick twitch offense and how successful it was running plays quicker and therefore getting in a lot more plays than avg. and also how much the Read Option was used.

My next thought was Dion Jordan. He practiced against it every day.

And I still think they are working with Jordan in the bubble to show him how they want him to work in this defense in diff sets. Is it any wonder that he will come back to practice this week when public no longer allowed? I still question his injury. Never saw him once cringe or act weird on sideline.

Some people on this site are slowly resembling a wing of the TEA-PARTY " you might as well of just said "Well if it's a legitimate rape, the body has a way to reject the chance of the women getting pregnant"

Yep, I think the entire staff is tied to Ryan Tannehill at this point. Dion Jordan could put up 10+ sacks this season . . . if this team is sub .500 again and Ryan Tannehill shows limited improvement, that is all that is going to matter.

if Jordan were to put up 10+ and Wake gets his usual 15. You can pretty much dial up playoffs and all RT has to do is 4,000 yds 20 TD's 10 Int.

Ok. So a lot of you don't seem to understand what being a GM is all about. 1) When you trade up to the 3rd spot in the Draft, that player should be a STARTER. That starter this year could have been Tyler Eifert. 2) You do not draft a player in the 2nd round that every other GM knew had BAD KIDNEYS and took off their draft board and BTW he is not starting either. 3) When you have a glaring need at RG you don't go out and sign a RG who is coming off a very bad knee injury with no set timetable when he will be able to help you. 4) You Don't draft Michael Egnew over south Florida's own T.Y. Hilton (who btw could have helped Tannehill last year) 5)you don't sign Richard Marshall (the only real UFA they signed last year only to CUT him one year later. 6)You don't draft John Jerry over Jimmy Graham (who BTW went to The U.) But let me come back to this year's draft. The coaches are already on record saying Jordan WILL NOT be a starter on this team this year. We all know Jamar Taylor will not (although he is not a bad player). WE ALL KNOW Dallas Thomas stinks, Mike Gillislee may not even make the team. Jelanie Jenkins, PLEASE!!! I like Sims but he is at least a year away. So I don't see what is ridiculous about this thread. And you know what? Come February when Jeff Ireland is shown the door I hope you will still say I am being ridiculous.

Rookie seasons are serious business.

Over the last 5 years, i believe only 3 players have hit double digit sacks their rookie season: Brian Orakpo, Von Miller, Aldon Smith. So mostly special players. Think Houston regrets drafting JJ Watt just because he "struggled" as a rookie? How about the Rams and Robert Quinn? How about other positions, Patrick Peterson struggled at corner as a rookie, should the Cardinals have passed on him with the 5th overall pick?

If Ireland is shown the door next offseason, its because he didnt do his job correctly in previous years and we were forced to start rookies right away to try and cover for the lack of talent on this roster.
