The new dolphins gm performance rating so far

Whoops, sorry, forgot that.

oh? now it was an oops. you didnt forget ANYTHING other than to check if he had an agent before you wrote your hate piece on hickey. you mouthed off about his agent doing this and that AND THEN YOU SAID finnegan was going to accept that offer of hickeys showing that YOU KNEW you were lying and doing anything and saying you could muster up to hate dennis hickey. there was no oops. you just got caught talking crap. and what for? why go to those lengths to discredit a guy that you dont even know?

thats pretty odd man. you should go into politics. [oh, i miss remembered :chuckle:]

I like what I see. It's not too early to see that Albert is what we needed. James is who we needed. Landry will be a star, resigned Starks, Grimes. I'm impressed, and yes, out doing JI probably isn't that hard.
About paying Albert-who cares? It's not our money, and if Aponte, the money guru said it's fine, then it's fine.
Hickey has sparked something we needed as fans, that young talent is coming in to make a difference. The Dami(e)n Williamses, Hoskins, Tripp, Mccain, and Landry of course. These are exciting players pushing out the ones who have had a chance, yet could not turn the corner (DT, Thigpen).
I'm less enthused with Philbin (Surprise..) and if he proves to be playoff repellent again, then I'm all for Hickey bringing in Harbau...uh, I mean a new coach.

Spesh made several excellent points. But I still like Hickey so far. His priorities seem to be very good at most positions. For example, pass rushers require subtle moves and lots of variety. McCain and Fede demonstrate that. I was never thrilled with the Dion Jordan pick partially because when I watched him against Stanford he did the same thing time after time. That has held up in the pros. Linebackers need to be smart and instinctive, which describes Tripp. Possession receivers should have a wide catch radius, which Landry manages. Safeties should be aggressive and make plays, like Delmas. Offensive tackles first and foremost these days should be incredibly reliable in pass protection, which is true of Albert and apparently James.

Not that I'm thrilled with everything. Guards should be naturally more wide bodied and strong than Turner and other guys we have picked up. IMO, Lynch does not have ideal athletic ability for tight end in his era. And so forth.

Huge improvement over Jeff Ireland, who reminded me of guys in Las Vegas who overreact to yesterday's results and are essentially on tilt all year long.

Hickey needs to land some elite players. I was a bit disappointed in some of his moves in that regard. On what planet can Arthur Lynch become great? Same with so many of our picks. James may look good but patching a need area and bypassing top rated players still on the board isn't as self confident and forward thinking as I'd prefer. Maybe Hickey was concerned about losing his job with a regime change unless he shored up tackle immediately. It's possible he'll be freed up to make more aggressive choices next year.

Spesh made several excellent points.

Bwahaha. And this one was my favorite.

Earlier this offseason we worked out Cortland Finnegan. Apparently impressed, Hickey(or his representative) talked to Finnegan's agent. Hickey wanted to sign him to a $5 million deal. Finnegan's agent wanted twice that. After they broke off the meeting and decided to wait a few days while mulling it over rumors started to float around that another team wanted Finnegan. Hickey folded and gave in to Finnegan's demands. The problem? According to reports that came out Finnegan had given his agent a deadline and was willing to sign our offer if we had waited a few more days. Oh, and no other team had actually contacted Finnegan's camp.

:tubes:

Cortland Finnegan doesn’t have a team at the moment.
And when he finds another one, it will be without the benefit of an agent.

“I still feel like I can contribute and also benefit a team by bringing a young kid along,” he said. “What’s different now is that I don’t have an agent. I’m representing myself in this process. Let me tell you I am getting an upfront look at what’s it’s really like to talk to these General Managers, coordinators and coaches and take in how they really feel about you. I’m asking questions and getting answers that I would never get from an agent.

Tsk, tsk, Spesh. :refuse:

Not to defend Jeff Ireland or any of his awful moves, but people quickly forget we have a pattern of taking a fly on GM and then it backfiring on us, once that GM is gone, it's only natural to have high hopes/praises for the replacement guy. Remember Rick Spielman? How about his not so wise of trading Adewale to bears for what I believe was a mid round pick and wr Booker, letting a o-lineman go with no replacement opt, his lack of being able to bring in free agents, etc...

Now while I'm not saying Hickey is bound to fail, I like his moves so far and not dropping the money bags on free agents just in hopes of striking gold(i.e. Ireland last offseason), but not going to expect him to work wonders right away. If the team does well, the coaching staff does their thing and we win games, free agents will want to be in Miami, will make Hickey's job much easier. Having said that, I danced when Ireland was let go, gave me a ray of sunshine

Jairus Byrd was out there and we didn't sign him. That is my biggest complaint of the off-season. It was said that we were interested but backed out because of money. He's a turnover machine and he is the best Free Safety in the league. He deserves to be paid.

Overall I give him a B -

This team needs a running game bad. Tannehill is not a QB that is going to be successful throwing the ball 35-40 times a game. Next years draft is loaded with RB's (cough cough, Todd Gurley). Gurley is going to be the best running back in the NFL in the very near future. Trade up and get him Hickey (if Miami makes the playoffs and you have a job still).

To build pretty much a whole new oline in one off season is good going and on top of that we appear to have good depth there as well. With a young QB that got murdered last year this was crucial to ensure he doesn't turn into a Carr and lose all trust in his line. Biggest issue addressed. Next biggest issue was the LBs, and in that regard it's really only a few promising rookies we have brought in. The rookie class as of now is looking like one of the best we have had in a long long time, making a difference in training camp and hopefully now that the season starts. Overall very pleased and I hope he is given time to finish the job.

I am impressed by Hickey, obviously he knows a little bit about scouting young talent. I hope it all comes together and we get back to those winning days!

James may look good but patching a need area and bypassing top rated players still on the board isn't as self confident and forward thinking as I'd prefer.

Okay...give us the names of those great players he passed up. It will be interesting seeing how much better you are at GM.

Don't forget the terrible value we got for Vontae Davis who was just entering his prime.

People need to get past this mindset of "we're better than last year that means we did a great job!". What matters is improving more than every other team in the league. And we failed. Taking 1 step forward when the rest of the league takes 3 steps forward leaves us 2 steps behind. This forum really needs to have higher standards for the team that everyone supposedly loves so much. I mean, my god, people are losing their minds over roster cuts, something that is considered relatively mundane for every other franchise out there. We need a shrewd leader for this franchise and we need him right now.

please explain how the pats improved, jets with those atrocious cb's, and lastly the buffalo bills improved....your absolutely wrong on this point.

At the end of the day a good GM needs to have an eye for talent and the foresight to keep the roster efficient. Two moves will tell me a lot about his eye for talent: 1. the Finnegan signing. 2. The Landry pick. I think they are both going to be hits but they still need to prove it on the field.

Oh, and the Grimes signing was fantastic. I'm sure Grimes could have gotten a lot more on the free market but he decided to cut us a deal for whatever reason. Does he simply love the city? Did Hickey sweet talk him? Does he like where the organization is headed? Who knows, but I'm guessing he didn't throw away millions of dollars just because he likes Miami's night life...

grimes wanted to stay in Miami...thinking hickey was not the reason.

a politician would deny deny deny.

and for the record, omar tweeted that this team has like 35 of Irelands guys and hickey has 17 or something close to that. a nice way for omar to keep it in perspective.

what is anyone ever going to say with anycred should RT become great this year. I'm sure a lot of you are hoping/praying that doest happen. which makes think people need phsyc evals.
