***The NHL Trade Deadline Thread***

According the The Score's ticker, Mats Sundin has refused to waive his no trade clause.

That's been a rumour forever.

I don't think he'll get traded anyway to be honest. Partly because of the no trade clause (he has final say over where he goes to) and partly because after last trade deadline, no one wants to pay the mega premium for a rental player.

TSN confirms the Sundin rumour and he released a statement.

"I cannot leave my teammates and join another NHL club at this time. I have never believed in the concept of a rental player...I hope everyone will understand and respect my decision" Sundin said.

The "big" fish is off the market but there are some damn big names being bounced around. I expect it to be busy tomorrow with teams wanting to strike first but Tuesday could be very interesting.

Sens problems have to more with John Paddock and pathetic netminding and very little to do with Murray.
If he ends up pulling the trigger on Fedorov or Prospal, then we will have something to talk about.
Until then you just sound like a disgruntled Leafs fan.:D:winkwink:

Who hired John Paddock ? And who has slapped Sugar Ray Emery on the wrist for being late to practice, missing team charters, and partying ? None other than Bryan Murray. You've gotten older and slower, with the Stillman, Commodore trade, and are now rumored to be looking at Chris Gratton, Sergei Fedorov, and Vaclav Prospal. Murray can shut me up by getting Khabibulin, or some talent on that second line, but until then, I see the same old Sens, that we beat to the pulp in the playoffs 4 times during the early 2000's.

except no one wants McCabe and his albatross contract. The isles certainly cant afford to move picks given the fact their minor league system is bleh after Kyle Okposo. McCabe is owed 5.75 against the cap each of the next 3 years and very few teams can afford him and even fewer are willing to take on that contract. Plus McCabe has to waive his no movement clause and supposedly the Isles are one of the few teams hes willing to do that for because of his time there and the fact his wife is from here.

From a toronto POV I can understand why theyd want more considering theyre something like 91-67 when mccabe is in the lineup as a leaf.

More good news for Isles fans, Hunter has been resigned 5yrs/10m. http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/ho...slanders/blog/

I get what you're saying Matt, but we gain nothing out of Sutton, except a warm body to put in the box. The most recent rumor I've heard has McCabe going to the Isles for Fedotenko and an early draft pick. I'm okay with that, because at least we're acquiring something with an eye towards the future.

Id be ok if it was fedatenko but an early draft pick? I doubt it. Based on GM Garth's comments hes looking to add more picks not deal them, especially with this draft being really deep. Plus Snow has also stated he values cap space as an asset in a trade so I doubt he'd give a player + a pick + cap space. In essence hes giving 3 assets in that scenario.

Supposedly Isles also talking extension with Comrie so keep an eye out because in the past the Isles have been quick to either resign or remove players. So that could go either way.

Blackhawks and one other team (speculated Dallas) is in the mix for Richards: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3264789

Barrett Jackman wont be leaving St Louis as presviously thought by some: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3264824

Vinny Prospal back to Philly: http://flyers.nhl.com/

The Lightning have shipped forward Vaclav Prospal to the Philadelphia Flyers for defensemen Alexandre Picard and a second or third round draft pick in 2009.

Rental?

Vancouver is firmly in that mix as well. It is rumoured that they actually submitted an offer before any other teams. I still think he's going to Dallas. The Stars can give the Bolts what they need, a goalie who is ready to play and play a lot right now where as the goalie the Canucks can offer might not be NHL ready for 2 years.
