***The official '08 Florida marlins thread***

Traded for Jason Stokes last year.

27 year old catcher. Put up a .316/.394/.492/.886 line in the hitter friendly PCL.

look on the bright side... only 3-5 years until Skipworth is ready. (He's projected to be a fast riser, only question is whether or not he stays at catcher. If he does, he'll be a stud. If not... he's gonna be a Nick Swisher type player).

With Tucker moving to the pen look for them to start developing him as a closer (something many projected him to be in the first place).

1 out away from a CG for Volstad. Let's hope he can build off this.

From what I've read, many scouting sites like Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus felt Volstad could be the best pitching prospect in all of baseball but he's not ranked higher because A)He hasn't really been dominant in AA (he's been very good but not dominant) and B)He's a sinker ball pitcher and they don't get as much love as guys who rely on strikeouts

Fish still looking good, only a game back. That loss to Atlanta on Monday was crucial though...we could've been tied for first right now. The Marlins gotta win tonight because our next seven is against the Cubs and Mets

well we guarentee at least a split in wrigley, not bad...lets win the series against the mutts and we are really cookin with G

Red Sox, Marlins, Pirates talk three-way trade

In one proposed scenario, the Marlins would trade outfielder Jeremy Hermida and a prospect for Ramirez, and the Red Sox then would flip Hermida and prospects to the Pirates for left fielder Jason Bay and possibly left-handed reliever John Grabow.

The players in the deal, however, remain fluid, according to the source, who described the names as "not set."
Two prominent Marlins prospects who have been mentioned — Class AA right-hander Ryan Tucker and Class A outfielder Michael Stanton — will not be in the trade, Marlins sources said.

Right now the deal is on hold because the Marlins are refusing to give up both Ryan Tucker and Mike Stanton. In fact, Ken Rosenthal talked to a Marlins official and he said there was no way Stanton would be traded.

the guy is literally only days older than I am and he's hit 27 HRs in A Ball, and might be a top 5 prospect in all of baseball.

Rumors are Jacobs could be traded for a catcher which is fine, we can move Cantu over to first and call up McPherson (or move Hammer to first if we get Manny).

Then next year you'll see Gaby Sanchez get a shot at starting at first, and rumors are they'll move Chris Coughlin to 3B (for short term anyway). That would be an interesting lineup as Coughlin and Sanchez are not the power hitters Cantu or Jacobs are, but they are probably better hitters all around than those 2.
