The Official 2014 Cornfed Thread

I think it stems from his first tour of duty with the Dolphins he wasn't that good and was used it a power scheme which is not his forte. It seems he has matured and honed his game a bit and he is in more natural zone blocking scheme. Sadly i don't think it will last as his career is winding down we maybe lucky to get one more season out of him

Short of injury, I'd say at least 3 more prime years. Only 29.

I did not realize his age, geez I'm bad with dates and time but it seemed ions ago when we drafted him I felt like he was 33-35. Your right if he continues this way 3 is easily done maybe 4

If only ryan kalil hadn't gone the pick before him. I remember people saying how satale fit our scheme so much better in 2007.

So this has been running around my noodle for awhile but not for this season. It is common wisdom (not always right) but it is considered in order of importance that LT is the premier spot followed by RT then LG then C then RG. Moving Pouncey now to RG is the smart move because it puts your best 5 on the line, but in a perfect world, Pouncey would move to LG Satale would stay at C and a RG would be a new addition that truly would be a better line and shades of Webb and Sims can i get some opinions on this.

The order is LT, C, RT, LG and RG. The center makes all the calls and is now widely considered the 2nd most important OL man.

That is a general line of thinking for most man/power blocking schemes especially in their pass blocking concepts which obviously it's importance (passing) has increased recently in the NFL. This hierarchy of line positioning does not coincide with a zone blocking scheme. Zone blocking schemes are generally determined by the playside (the direction in which the play is going) rather than specific assignment blocking. In short, the line acts more as one cohesive unit in their steps toward the playside. Of course, lineman can pull (most likely, but not limited to the guards) and there will be misdirection plays as well, but even then the entire line will usually all step in the same way of the misdirection or non-playside.

The comments made about the Dolphins misusing Pouncey at the "least important" position of RG are false and do not apply to Lazor's scheme. Following the scenario of Pouncey at RG and keeping Satele at C, we are using the 5 best lineman in the best situation that is currently offered to us.
