So you're going to draft a QB, good knows if they'll be any good, and it will be hard to tell because they won't have any one to throw to, they won't have a line that can block, and they won't have a running game that you can hang your hat on.
Let's just say that you got a first round pick for each of those players- I mean in actuality you aren't getting a first for Tua or Tyreek, but ok. So now you are down two starting receivers (not to mention that we don't even have any viable receivers besides Tyreek and Tua) as well as a QB. So you're counting on hitting on all those picks just to get back to where we were. But realistically, bust rates are very high for QB's and even among wide receivers there's plenty of Treylon Burks drafted. You're not replacing all those players. Yeah you'd get some cap money- and we've seen in 2013 and 2020 how much blowing a bunch of money in FA does for your team. You're paying for production somebody gave another team that didn't prioritize retaining them. That works out really well. And then you just have your entire core, if somehow you hit on all those picks, coming due for FA at the exact same time, which is a nightmare.
And none of that adds anything to the OL, adds any depth receivers, adds a tight end behind Jonnu, adds somebody in the secondary who can do anything half worthwhile because the only ones worth anything there are over the hill and we'll be short our two starting safeties. None of that adds a DT besides Sieler, an off ball LB.
Oh but we'll have 8000 draft picks so we can fill every hole. Great, but an organization that has never proven it can draft well is now going to have to scout to replace the entire roster. The more holes you have to fill in one draft, the more picks you HAVE to hit, you lower your efficiency and your "hit" rate. Nearly every team that has had more than two first rounders in one draft- including us- has royally blown a few of those because its damn hard.
Let's learn from the mistakes that we've been making constantly since Marino. Let's not discard the good pieces we have, but conserve cap for a bit by not chasing mediocre FA's and give young players, and not Jordan Poyer, a chance.
