Tua Fires Agent Signs New One

Are we sure the agent didn’t fire Tua? I can’t imagine a conversation where Tua was like: “I’ve had a major hip injury, and a million concussions. I just missed my team’s first playoff game in six years, and that’s the best you could do? I’m supposed to get paid!”

I “can’t” either.

The agent probably told him a little too much truth, that Tua didn't want to hear. Namely, there is no big money extension coming until you stay healthy and prove to be more than what he has shown.

I doubt very much any top agent would ever do that.

Tua is potentially a HUGE meal ticket very soon for whomever his agent is, and the last thing you want to do is bring even slight doubt into the mind of a client.

Not to talk Jerry Maguire as if it's not just a movie, but agents care about the big bucks, not helping them extend their career at the cost of big pay days, or to advise them to retire because of health is not their job, or even care to make it their job.

I find it a little funny, people try and take a shot at Tua for changing agents. This happens all the time. Do people realize that Athletes First is now one of the largest agents in the NFL as far as money for clients and is a owned by one of the largest marketing firms in the world. Maybe just maybe Tua made a business decision to go out and get one if the best agency in the business. Fron not only NFL contracts, but also maybe the best in marketing as well (which is huge money these days).

This is interesting. On the one hand, not uncommon for a player to switch agents. On the other hand, not sure why now with Tua (new deal is not imminent) and what would cause the rift? Leigh Steinberg who he fired is very well reputed too. Is Tua expecting the Dolphins to use the 5th year option? Thinks it is the agents fault if the Dolphins don't? Agent doesn't control the concussions or the Dolphins reaction to them. The timing just seems a bit odd, unless there is a personality rift between the two parties. But not sure why that would have developed now either when there shouldn't be much in the way of negotiations. Maybe he just wants a new underwear deal like Brady? https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/02/06/tua-tagovailoa-makes-agent-change/
No major tv endorsements. Considering how many jerseys he sells, no 1 passer, I’d switch as well. As he’s a minority… Samoan… he’d have an advantage one would think.

This is the most likely. Has probably nothing to with NFL contract (can't even negotiate yet) and more about PR/marketing. That is were a guy like Steignberg are behind (he is also 73) agencies like Athletes First, who are also affiliated with major marketing companies.

There seemed to be a click bait field day last season with negative Tua speculation by the lamestream media most of it one sided and unchallenged. Maybe Tua and his dad decided to find a more vocal and assertive advocate. I sure wouldn't fault him for that!

I cant wait until free agency. I'm so tired of talking about the most irrelevant details revolving around Tua.
