For what reason? Go back and look at the larger QB deals and when they get signed. Often before and even after TC starts. Our impatience doesn't create new facts.
I mean there are lots of possible reasons why a new deal may not happen right now.

The one that stands out is Schefter reporting directly from Miami and Grier that they are absolutely not comfortable signing Tua right now where the market is. It has been reported that contract talks happened before Goff signed and that they were close to a deal for less than Goff got. The minute that new contract went down... Tua and his agent upped the price... Miami was like: "Nah, we will sign you for what you were asking yesterday.

Each side has a point. Miami is like... You were fine with this amount yesterday... So sign the bloody contract and let's go win a Superbowl. Tua and his agent keep saying that the Market is the market and they deserve whatever the market will bear.

I think Tua's point is mooted a little because the Dolphins own his rights for the next 3 seasons. Tua is not a unrestricted free agent... So the market does not directly apply to him. It is true that Lawrence was not a UFA either... but that was the Jags choice... They were under zero obligation to give him a new deal at that point.

The Dolphins drafted him, invested in him and developed him... They are supposed to get compensation for that investment. They are supposed to be able to reap the benefits of the affordability of the rookie contract.

Fowler contradicts Darlingtons statements yesterday saying “ the dolphins and Tua are in the same ballpark and a deal is close “

That’s a bit more optimistic than what his actual quote was.

This one’s complicated, because Miami is dedicated to doing it. They want to sign him long-term, they’ve had talks. I believe, and my sense is, that they’re at least in the ballpark. But that recent deals from Jared Goff, Trevor Lawrence at $55 million a year does complicate the situation

in the same ballpark means they’re close.. not what Darlington reported
Not trying to get into semantics here, but you said that Fowler said, “a deal is close”, which he didn’t. Being in the ballpark but not closing the deal happens all the time in contract negotiations.

Yeah I think were talking about the same thing, in the same ballpark means close to me

Yeah, we are. I’m just saying to think about how many times we’ve seen an athlete say something along the lines of, “we got close, but we just weren’t able to make it work”. The old adage about how a “fair compromise leaves both sides unhappy” probably applies to this negotiation.

Agreed.

The questions then become has something dramatically changed? Assuming that has not happened, which one do you believe has more credibility, and why?

Is it simply a case of one believing what they want to believe, as opposed to something they don't?

I have no idea if either are accurate. It could very well be one leak came from the agent, the other came from the team, and the "truth" is somewhere in the middle.

My point is I don't think either of those reporters make things up out of thin air.
