I am of the opinion that the 55m per is not the issue. It isn't real anyway.

I believe the issue is the guarantees. Guarantees beyond , if 3 years, and big guarantees against injury are probably things the team is hesitant to do.

Nailed it @Mach2 , what a shame that these clear and simple concepts are so foreign to such a wide swath of posters around here. All of this hand-wringing and agita for what? The die has been cast , Tua will be getting paid. Period. Athletes First are going to do everything in their power to get that per year number as high as possible on their march to ultimately represent every NFL QB ( their publicly stated goal), the last thing they want to do at this point is to appear to take any step backwards. Real numbers be damned, they need the headlines. Hard not to speculate that if Tua had stuck with Leigh Steinberg or possibly moved to Drew instead that this would've been done already based on their track record with the Phins, who knows. Athletes First certainly led a parade of talent out of SoFl this year (Wilkins, Rob Hunt, Raekwon). This will get done, hopefully before this thread gets to 200 pages!

It is exactly the guarantees that matter.

I have seen a number of posts of Mahomes only being at $45M per season. In September last year the Chiefs reworked his contract to make $210M from 2023 - 2026 or about $52M per year. There are also incentives in there that could push that upward. The larger point is that it is fully guaranteed.

I can remember back in the day when Michael Vick got that huge contract from Philly for over $100M.....which was unheard of at the time....but when you read the fine print, only like $30 - $40M of that was guaranteed.

Agree, but in this case the poster said, and I quote, "spitballing a few potential reasons".

It was pretty clear, to me at least, that it wasn't being stated as fact.

Perhaps you glossed over that part? Or read it differently?

This contract business shouldn't be something anyone is actually getting angry about. We honeslty have no real information on the topic other than some critptic tweets and a few statements from Darlington.

If he gets paid right now or not, it shouldn't matter to us really. He's under contract next year. If anything, waiting another year kinda protects us as fans in the worse case scenario that Tua gets a bunch of concussions again.

Gotta look at it from all angles.

Other than Tua, Dolphins management is probably disappointed with McDaniel's coaching during the past two years of late season collapses and my guess is that the 2024 season could be viewed as a "prove it" year for both Tua and McDaniel.

Tua, theoretically, has to decide on taking a risk of playing on the option with no future guaranteed $, or accepting a contract that has a considerable amount of future guarantees. The agent can't stop him from protecting himself and family if he chooses to do that

Definitely. In fact, I’m pretty sure the Dolphins are hoping to find a new coach who can get them back to the glory years of missing the playoffs consistently. /s

Brandon Shore is the one whose hands this is in now, Grier certainly has input but when it comes to the cap and the nuts and bolts of how contracts are put together it's Shore all day. From everything I've heard and read Grier has practically no interaction with player agents once a decision has been made to keep and/or pursue a player. Brandon Shore has way more power in this organization than people realize.

I said "their demands" meaning both Tua and his Agent.

Did you not listen to Tua's press conference? he is in no way shape or form interested in anything less than market value, that is 55mill ish and over 140mill ish guaranteed at singing.

He said "the market is the market, it is not up to the organization to decide how much he gets paid"

if Grier/Shore contract offer is way less than that, I don't see a deal getting done.
