The thing is, is that if every other team is doing it, it's not an overpay. It's what the market is dictating. I would love for Miami to be able to sign a young franchise QB for $25-$30 million a year, but that's simply not the going rate.

The only teams who aren't doing it are the teams who haven't had the chance to because they haven't found a QB that is ready to sign a new contract, and who can perform at that level yet. Even Kirk Cousins is getting $45 million at this stage in his career.

Tua's deal will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 20%-23% of the cap.

I get what you are saying. The Dolphins need to be smarter with their contracts overall. We overpay these guys to come here... and then often we keep increasing their salaries if anyone else that plays their position gets a pay raise.

This is folly.

if you sign a 4 year deal and after 2 years the market catches up and you now no longer make 5 million more than any other player... .Too Fkg bad.

Have your agent explain that to you before you agree to sign the 4 year 120 million dollar contract.

Hill was all smiles the first 2 years when he was the highest paid... Now he is only the second or third highest paid he opens his mouth and mentions he needs a new contract.

As to the argument about the guaranteed money... again that falls on Hill and his agent. This is the deal they agreed to. Hill has been making 30 million dollars per season. I am not concerned for him not having guaranteed money for the last season of his current deal.

Hill has played great for us.... But we made him by far the highest paid non QB player in the league when he came here and we gave up half a dozen high draft picks to get him..... We overpaid...


Now the market is starting to catch up a little and Hill is a better value we are supposed to rework his contract and pay him more?

No thank you.

The Dolphins deserve to get some value out of this deal

Well said. Yeah, the whole "they overpaid" thing is just a lazy response. When QBs for good or bad reasons get paid more, that adjusts the market. Any market. Sure, there could be a bunch of silly reasons houses in XYZ zipcode went for high prices, but now that's the market for new sellers in the same zip code.

Hill spoke out over the last few days stating he is looking for a new contract. He mentioned that other players got paid... Said he was glad they got paid.... (Jefferson, Waddle etc...) and now it was his turn again. ( I am paraphrasing.)

Hill was by far the highest paid when we first inked him... Now that the market has caught up and the Dolphins are getting better value... Hill wants a new contract.

If I missed something please feel free to interject.

I wholeheartedly agree. But, if there is an opportunity to just rejigger the numbers to get him some more gtd money for maybe an add on year or two and it doesn't the cap, I say do it. Now, is that way of doing it available? I have no idea.

At the same time he also has some girl saying he broke her leg and looking for a jury trial which would potentially cost him a week of availability in the season. He keeps being a lightning rod of negative attention. Maybe he causes it some/all, or maybe he doesn't. But, it could cost him a bit in terms of what an extension would look like/be available...

Well.... I may be in the vast minority for wanting Tua to play out his contract this season.

But even if that happens they will have to sign him next offseason. (60 million per)

Now as others have pointed out... You can move some of that around and pay a huge signing bonus to make the deal a little more cap friendly.

The trouble is that we have cap problems already for next season. Tua wants a huge pay raise. (And he will probably get it.)

Even moving money around there is not enough money to pay Tua and then give a pay raise to Tyreek Hill.

This percentage hurts the team. The only QB worth that percentage is Mahomes.
Allen, Burrow, Goff, Lawrence , Herbert etc... all ridiculously over paid, and because of that hurting their teams.

Has he been the best WR int the game the past two seasons?

He has no guaranteed $ after this season. If you cut him you have 22m dead money and only gain 11m cap space. What sense does it make to do that? Are you going to replace his production for 11m?

What difference does it make what he says. If that irritates you, tough titties. You just seem to be against these guys making this kind of money in general. You would cut off your nose to spite your face and call it principles, rather than try to make it work for both parties.

He is the best player on the team. If you want to cut him, fine, but it makes no sense to me. I think in terms of what's best for the team, not how jealous I am of the money they make.
