This percentage hurts the team. The only QB worth that percentage is Mahomes.
Allen, Burrow, Goff, Lawrence , Herbert etc... all ridiculously over paid, and because of that hurting their teams.
Just stop. "Worth" is a subjective opinion. Stop acting like it's fact.

It is irrelevant in any case. What is the alternative? Go after third tier QBs? Another rookie who will take several years to develop, if he does at all, then we're right back here again in 4 years?

You like to make general opinionated comments and observations but be precise for one freaking post.

Tell me. Exactly what path do you want to take?

Whatever happens with Tua, they better not mess around with Tyreek and his contract. Teams fear Tyreek the way teams like us fear Josh Allen, those are the guys you pay and don't think twice about it. Without Tyreek, Tua is nothing special and everyone outside of finheaven knows it.

I mean, if you want to discuss the QB position being overpaid in general, that's a different convo, but it's not realistic to expect that to go backward.

The vast majority of Championship caliber teams all have QBs whose salaries make up more than 20% of the cap at this point. Tua, Purdy, Lance, and Stroud will join that list as well as soon as they sign their second contract.

I figure we should lock this thread when it hits 125 pages since nothing of interest has happened since page 2. All in favor say aye. Lol

Well.... I may be in the vast minority for wanting Tua to play out his contract this season.

But even if that happens they will have to sign him next offseason. (60 million per)

Now as others have pointed out... You can move some of that around and pay a huge signing bonus to make the deal a little more cap friendly.

The trouble is that we have cap problems already for next season. Tua wants a huge pay raise. (And he will probably get it.)

Even moving money around there is not enough money to pay Tua and then give a pay raise to Tyreek Hill.
What would be the benefit of waiting? He only costs more if you wait. If for some reason they want to move on from Tua, they get who and how?

Just pay the guy.

Tua was winning games in Alabama and even under Flores great offensive system before Tyreek was a teammate.

I know what path I wish he'd take

So was Mac Jones, and the receivers Tua had at Bama...don't get me started. It's fine that Tua is a great point guard who excels with supremely talented and FAST wr's, but he needs those things to make him who he is statistically. That's why Grier traded up for Waddle and traded for Reek, very wise to maximize Tua's skill set.

Take away Tyreek and you take away the true threat of this offense. Tua doesn't appear to be a guy that can win big with anything less than supreme talent at WR which is fine, but he needs to be paid less as a result or this whole thing will not work out. Allen for example, needs less offensive talent around him to be successful, because HE is more talented and a better QB than Tua like MANY others in the NFL. That's just reality and not everyone can deal with it, especially around here.

There’s a great interview by Michael Silver with McDaniel from last summer, it’s about an hour long and McDaniel talks about these things directly. He mentions how his first season, right after he arrived when he started prepping for the draft and free agency the front office wanted to go after oline, and that’s what caused McDaniel to put together the video with 600 plays of Tua that we’ve heard about. Somehow it got twisted that he put together that video to boost Tua’s confidence, but that was not its original purpose.

McDaniel said he needed to convince the front office and scouts of what he was seeing on film, and what his vision for Tua was, which was a guy who could be successful if they let him be a point guard and got him guys with speed who could make plays with the ball, like you said. The Tyreek trade was a direct result of that vision. I see a lot of posts taking about how Tua is a perfect fit for Mike’s offense, but the offense has largely been created to cater to Tua, not that that is necessarily an issue, especially if it works. I guess the degree to which it works or the trade offs involved in making it work is what has become the center of the debate.

That philosophy comes straight from former Dolphin line coach (pun very much intended) Chris Foerster whom McDaniel studied at the feet of in SF.

"This is my personal opinion, if they ask me, invest in guys that touch the ball, guys that can touch the ball and score touchdowns. "

Is it possible Forester got this philosophy from Shanahan? I ask only because he joined the 49ers staff a couple of years after McDaniel did.
