Lamaak Named to Outland Trophy Watch List
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State offensive lineman Ben Lamaak has been named to the 2010 Outland Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced Monday. The Outland Trophy is awarded to the top offensive or defensive tackle, offensive guard or center each season.
Lamaak is slated as the Cyclones’ starting center following the spring season. The 6-4 senior made every start at right guard last season. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native has started 33 games at Iowa State, moving from tight end to the offensive line in his redshirt freshman season.
“Ben is a great leader for us,” ISU assistant head coach and offensive line coach Bill Bleil said. “He’s been playing here a long time. We are excited to have someone who has leadership skills like Ben has and who has played as well as he’s played since he’s been here. We think he’s a great player and he can get even better. He was one of the significant players for us a year ago and we are excited about what he can do in the future.”
Lamaak is one of 63 players recognized on the watch list and one of 10 from the Big 12 Conference. The FWAA All-America Committee will select three finalists in late November and eventually the overall winner. The 2010 winner will be announced on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 9.
