First off -- An acl cannot be strained -- only muscles can be strained.... An ACL can be sprained and this is = to a tear. We grade strains 1 = microtrauma, 2= a partial tear 3= complete rupture. An ACL sprain can depending on the degree can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months to heal...

EDIT: although if he can play through the pain and keep his hammies and quads strong he might be able to play if this is in fact just a partial sprain.

FinFanGirl...

While you are certainly correct about properly refering to sprains with ligaments and strains with muscles... since the original quote was coming from a non-medical person... using layman's terms... in that respect... you can indeed stress/stretch/strain a ligament! :D

That particular act of "straining" is not to be confused the layman's act of straining pasta...

or as a cooking professional might refer to it as "draining!"

and since Im not a cooking professional... I can only assume there is only one stage/grade of draining... (the stage where the water goes through the holes leaving the pasta dry):)

Lastly, texasPHINSfan...

as a non-medical professional... my "professional" medical advice to minimize your rhino sinusitis... is to stop picking your nose!:rofl3:

Ok sorry for the silliness...
Good to hear the V-man is not so bad... hopefully it is indeed a grade 1 sprain, needing no cutting and pasting.

w00t! good joke there.

what do you say to a two-eyed cyclops?

hey......

you're not a cyclops! ...get outta here...

Well, that's definitely really great news to hear that it was just a strained ACL and not a tear but it's still a big loss and hope he can come back soon. What are the odds of us putting him on the PUP list and if we do, does his salary (not that it's much) count against the CAP? Just curious.

No problem - im an athletic trainer -- so hit me up with any sports med injury and i can pretty much explain it to you and give you a time frame for recovery. Also Bonedoc is a good source...

How often do you see Hallux Rigidus? Which types of athletes or player positions? Know any name athletes whose careers were affected or terminated?

Acute Up to four weeks. Consider acute bacterial rhinosinusitis if symptoms worsen after five days, if symptoms persist for 10 days or with symptoms out of proportion to those typically associated with viral infection.
Subacute Four to <12 weeks Same Complete resolution after effective medical therapy.
Recurrent acute Four or more episodes per year with each episode of at least seven days' duration; absence of intervening signs and symptoms

Chronic 12 weeks or more Same Facial pain/pressure does not constitute a suggestive history in the absence of other nasal signs and symptoms

Sounds like you are reading this from a book. You shouldn't try to give medical advice without the proper education and training and experience.
It's considerably more complex than that and it requires a more detailed history.

Why? It's not like TPP was asking for professional advice.. She's just displaying some knowledge.. It's all good.

Mind explaining how exactly a knee becomes dislocated? I had always thought the petalla floated free of connection (bone anyway). So does this imply ligaments or cartalidge were torn, for the knee to become dislocated?

If you had paid attention she said she is a physical trainer, therefore she is a professional. Some people need to look past their lack of knowledge and accept someone else surpasses them.
