Was the Brandon Marshall trade worth it?

Ask yourselves one question, how much would he garner in a trade NOW? I'm guessing at most, a 2nd or 3rd rd pick.
Professional sports is full of exceptional athletes. However, what separates one great athlete from another is intelligence and mental toughness. Marshall does not always play smart and he is certainly not mentally tough. He's no Jerry Rice or Larry Fitzgerald, that's for sure. He's more of a Randy Moss type i.e his physical attributes you will marvel at, but when things are tough he will either disappear or do something stupid.
Championship teams are made up of mentally tough, natural leaders. He's not of that caliber. He could play on a championship caliber team as long as there are other leaders on the team and he becomes just a piece of the offense, but not the principal guy (a la Jerry Rice). In that sense, he's not worth the contract he was given.

marshall is still a beast. He is pretty good with Henne imagine how much better he would be if he actually had someone to throw him accurate passes.

He's had several 'accurate passes' hit him right in the hands in the endzone this season and he has failed. 4 dropped endzone passes, 3 of which were pretty routine catches. He's being paid to be a difference maker and he hasn't been. Can't blame Henne for those. (try as you might)

The problem with these diva wide receivers with personality disorders is that they need to play for teams that have very strong leadership cultures so that their crap can be kept at bay. This is what the Patriots' culture did for Randy Moss.

Right now this team is in a crisis of leadership, from the top on down, and especially on offense, where there is no established leader at quarterback to steady the ship. For a diva wide receiver with a personality disorder like Marshall, that's going to lead to lapses in his play where he doesn't stay focused and doesn't show the determination he should to make plays.

This is the wrong kind of team culture right now for a player like Brandon Marshall. He's going to feed off of this in a negative way.

If he had a personality like Larry Fitzgerald, he'd be part of the solution right now, but he doesn't, so he adds to the problem.

As for the original topic, IMO you should never bring players like this onto your team unless you already have a strong leadership culture in place among the players.

If you have such a leadership culture in place, these players assimilate into it and follow rank, and their personal garbage is kept at bay. If you don't have that kind of leadership culture in place, these players disorganize your team dynamics and get in the way of its development. They're like wildcards whose unpredictability keeps things from moving forward in a nice steady line of development.

if we had another team draft for us...then I would want the picks back.

Excellent points. I would add, however, that the Pats never won a SB with Moss on the team

Absolutely, the way this team wastes 2nd rounders? This was a move I'd make again. He is a dominant receiver in this league.

aside from QB, WR was the biggest complaint. we had no big time WR. we got one. now people are doubting if it was worth it. Of course it was worth it.

or you could say imagine what marshall would be if he actually caught the acurate passes thrown to him.

Absolutely worth it, he's our best offensive threat by a mile.

no he isnt. i would say it is daniel thomas. the problem right now is henne relies on him in key situations too much. give him a rest. he has dropped balls in endzone, run wrong route, danced with defender at LOS being late in his quick route, and is still mentally lost sometimes.

clearly, marshall has some mental issues. football is a mental game in many facets. I was indifferent to marshall. marshall helped get people in seats. until the whole debacle last year, involving marshall btw, started. which helped lead to the disfunctionality of this team and henceforth the fans who bagged this team the entire offseason.

I have always said big name players dont make you great, players who play great and strive for greatness make you great. marshall is kinda just like dolphin fans. a whiner. so his stabbing kind of set him straight....not really. dude still has issues.

just dont go too much to the well with him. other players can make plays.

The questions is could this front offense make goood drafts with those 2 second round picks or blow it cuz I rather have Marshall than 2 blown picks

Yes because the trade eventually will lead us to Andrew Luck instead of scrubs like Locker Ponder Gabbert etc.

He drops one ball and now he's butterfingers?.....I'd say he does better than most at catching the ball.

Brandon Marshall just admitted 10 days ago or so that he does not have great hands nor does he run really good routes. And he said that he too often, he tries to run with the ball before he catches it.

He said his game was using his muscle and size.

I wish I could find that story, it was a part of one in one of the local newspapers if anyone can link it.
