We've been duped

Wanny was a good coach?

I think you just made it difficult to find support for anything else you have to say.

True, when I read that I nearly fell out of my chair LOLOLOLOL :rofl3:

AJ had a higher completion % in one game because 80% (guessing) of his throws were for about 7 yards or less.

Gus never threw a INT returned for a TD. AJ seems to like doing that one in every 3-4 games it seems. He did it what...6 times last year? And once so far during preseason although probably only playing a combined total time of 1 1/2 games?

Gus outplayed Feeley in several perseason games (if you look beyond them both playing horribly).

AJ still makes too many mental errors, looks down his receiver (my lord, the 3rd string camp fodder safety that picked AJ said he just watched AJ to see where he was throwing it and ran to it).

In the end...they both are inadequate....but AJ has been given more then enough of a shot to come in and beat out the mediocre play of Gus. However....he can't even do that from a physical standpoint and his mental mistakes are a lot worse.

So....Although Gus isn't the greatest and hasn't exactly been stellar.....if AJ had any real talent and ability and the mindset for the game....how hard could it be to beat Gus out? If AJ came in and played some good ball there is no doubt in my mind he would be starting. He hasn't, can't, and probably never will which is why he will be 3rd or 2nd string for however long his NFL career lasts. He has decent physical ability....but that's only 1/2 the battle.

Yep, but soon you will get a reply that Gus fumbled and it was returned for a TD. I guess they think that is the same as throwing the football to the other team...many times?

lol, i know..... to whoever comes up w/that reply...fumbles aren't always the QB or RB's fault.....the Oline needs to block....and it's hard to hold onto a ball when someone stronger and bigger then you is trying to strip it or is running into you full force (I don't remember that exact play, I didn't watch all of every game) but just giving examples :) It's not like he's Griese and blind on the left-side (remember him dropping back and NEVER looking to his left although knowing the turnstyle Smith was covering that side......my word that guy was hammered for it.....lol)

It is. It's six points anyway you want to spin it. When Gus throws for two picks and gets sacked three times this week whats gonna be the justification for starting him? Pocket presence?

Intercepttions are also usually due to the offensive line missing a block and the quarterback rushing his throw. You cant excuse one without the other

Nope! AJ likes to lock onto one receiver. He throws too many picks that go for 6 points the other way. I do not like AJ or gus. I think both of them suck and are backup QBs in this league, but AJ threw too many footballs to the other team. Gus should start. If Sage beats him out, then so be it. But AJ had a fair try and he did not take advantage of it. Gus should start, Sage should earn it. AJ should...? I guess???also earn it???

ahh...No. A QB doesn't have to force a ball. I forget the article....but could find it if need be that said instead of throwing the ball away AJ threw into an area with 3 defenders and 2 more in the surrounding area....w/out one fin player around. Saban even stated a QB needs to know when a play is a bust and just take the loss of play or throw the ball away. AJ makes bad mistakes mentally. That's just a fact. He doesn't read coverages right, when a play goes haywire he just looks for aqua and throws it out there with a wish attached to it. QBs don't need to do that. He can and should throw it away or take the loss....at least we have the ball. That's why he's back to being a 3rd string QB!

My gripe is more of why start a 34 year old backup in a rebuilding year? If he gets benched after the bye week fine. But this is the perfect year to start either Sage or AJ. We had a chance at drafting Frye ( A TOP 15 qb in 2 or 3 years) and we passed. It would be a crime to waste a rebuilding year on someone like Gus

I know what you are thinking, but I think that Saban wants to win now. Do I think Saban is gonna win now...NO, but I think, that he thinks he will. He went with the best option of who is on the team. He did not think that Frye, or Orton was any better than AJ or Gus. How do I know this? I don't...It is My OPINION. We didn't draft Frye or Orton or anyone else. Gus made less mistakes than AJ and he is starting(My opinion again). That is where we are at. Would I like to see somone other than Gus? YES! We have nothing. Couch is not an upgrade. Gus is who we have. AJ could not beat him out. Will Sage?

Just curious as for those of you that still think wannstadt was a great coach and went 11-5 after taking over for jimmy what did the coach who took over for jimmy in dallas do? real hard to coach when your not coaching huh?

I guess you're not talking to me, but what ARE you talking about? Wannstadt was never a great coach and never a good coach.

DW was a good D coach but couldn't handle the HC position and couldn't pick talent worth crap. But...that's a whole other discussion. I think Saban wants to try to get us respectable this year (if he beats Vegas then he's done "ok") and target a QB in next year's draft. AJ...I think I've seen just about enough of him. Too bad though. I was hoping with his physical skills he would begin to minimize his mental mistakes but after sitting behind McNabb for years and playing a year here...this preseason we have seen he hasn't improved "mentally" a whole lot so he's shot is over. I'm all for giving Sage a shot for a few games.
