We've been duped

I fully agree. Anybody who can't see AJ's talent is blind. Looks like Saban is no better than Wanny, just starting conspiracy's to keep Feeley on the bench.

Talent??? Yes at a secondary qb at best. It was what it was a bad trade but you cannot tell me that this kid hasn't had the opportunity to prove people wrong. He doesn't produce and he doesn't practice well. There has to be something behind closed doors that we do not see and maybe now Gus is the lesser of two evils. Make no mistake we are rebuilding and that is that nothing more or less. A franchise qb is in order and chances are no matter where we end up this year that will be on next years agenda. Everyone seems to complain about the decisions being made in the present, but let the season unfold. We may have picked up a stud running back and after Ricky has a pretty good year he may be trade bait and offer us more options. This team will do fine and will be competitive and probably not playoff contenders. They spent too many years in mediocrety trying to fix random problems and now the basics are being addressed. Feeley should be gone hands down and Sage over two years has out performed him. Stupid decisions that are being rectified so I believe in this system and the makers that be. I'm willing to give Saban the benefit of the doubt and untlil he proves everyone wrong than give the guy and the decisions he's making a break...

I do think Saban and Linehan wanted and intended for Gus to be the guy they were going to start. It is evident that it was his to lose. But Saban didnt give it to him sight unseen. Basically Gus lost it, but AJ couldnt win it. Sage cant be started now, he has no reps against anybody credible. IF Gus falters, (which is a distinct possibility) Sage will get his shot.
i have never agreed with you before on anything, but i agree 100% with this. Gus didn't win it, but AJ did a better job of losing it.

of course, NONE of that is confidence inspiring.

My point is that Gus has not outplayed AJ, they both suck. But since the compeititon was phoney it doesn't matter, and I think we should have brought in real talent for the position.
come on... .get off of it! the competition was NOT phoney. Feeley had his chance to play and underperformed in every stat. There is not ONE stat he outperformed Gus at... and that says a lot. how was it set up? Don't start with stories of "receivers were told to drop balls, linemen were told to not block, etc". conspiracy theories are passe.

i do agree we should have brought in real talent, or maybe drafted someone... but complaining about it now won't fix anything.

please don't report me to the mods.

This was never a QB compeitition.

It was always Gus's job. He is Linehan's buddy.

If you look at all preseason games combined, there was nothing to indicate Gus wins. In fact Gus never even scored a TD. and missed terribly on open WRs.

No doubt neither are starting caliber, but I would rather see Sage get a shot. At least he showed fire and the ability to make plays. Gus was as benign and inaffective as well...Jay Fiedler.

Gus Fiedler.

Open comment to Nick Saban:

Nick you better pull a rabbut out of your a$$ on the QB. You picked up no answer here, and you drafted no future (and there was some good young talent there). YOU have handicapped this team going into the season by failing to address the most important position, one everyone knew was a problem. Strike one.

What about the wr drops....i know of one right off hand that was a td but chambers dropped it. Also i would be interested to know what your plan wouldve been. Where was this amazing qb who would take us to the promise land. With our salary cap issues what wouldve been your plan????

Saban DID address the QB position -- we have a new starting QB this year. Let's see him play a few regular season games in the full, non-vanilla offense before we pass judgment. Let's see if he can get a running game going and some consistent pass blocking too, because those were also the culprits in our poor QB play last year.

#2 Ricky is on record sayign he knew he wanted to come back since Feb and told Nick that in their first talk.
#4 OLine coaches don't block last I saw. Still have to have talent.
#5 Picking Matt Roth, channiong Crowder, and Travis Daniels When we could have picked Kyle Orton. Enough said. We need Daniels and Crowder is going to be good. But was it worth not drafting a QB? I am not sure it was. I would have setteld for Crowder, Orton, and Daniels.
Yeah but this is hindsight. If Orton would've broken his leg before the 1st preseason game, he'd have just as much potential and we wouldn't know anything about it.

What bugs me about Frerotte is that he overthrows his receivers as much as Fiedler did. And everyone keeps saying that it'll be corrected over time, but it never did with Fiedler. So what's to say it's going to happen now?

I've said it before, I'll say it again. We have NO QB. And if Saban sticks to someone just for the sake of "continuity"... I'm going to be very sad because this team wouldn't have found a true HC, either.

Say what you want about Saban, but he is dropping the ball on this one.

maybe we should open the field for some suggestions. what should be done about the situation, now?

Everyone take a chill pill, we're not going to the Superbowl this year anyway. Gus can play it out and if he fails give Sage a shot.

i do see the overthrows too.

the difference between Gus' overthrowing problem and AJ's decision-making problem i think is its easier to correct the overthrowing problem when you get the timing down with your receivers through practice and repetition.

the decision thing for feeley... well... it just seems like he's not improving from last year to this. granted its only been preseason, but i mean... i watched the buffalo game and new england game the other day and AJ performed better there than he did this preseason. was it not being used to the new system? could be. But it is such a regression/non-improvement, that its hard to have confidence in the guy.

at any rate, Saban and crew see both these guys at every practice AND at every game. we only see the games. given that, and that saban et al are professionals, our opinions hold no water.

second, team leaders like mcmike and chambers endorsing Frerotte says worlds about the situtation if you ask me.

I'm for bringing in couch dumping feeley letting ferotte and sage play half the season letting couch get up to speed then letting him start the last half of the season. I mean if the broncos can do it why not us?

SBH, you said this just a few weeks ago:

Feeley has more upside, sure. Frerotte more (system?) experience, sure. But after all, they're both basically new guys - one for not knowing the specifics of the system, and the other for not knowing his teamates better. If you give one of them the full chance to succeed, you'd probably see some progress. But as it is... we might end up with a Wanny-like QB controversy out there that will only bring the worst of whoever is out there.

so, maybe we need to develop some continuity.
