Who cares if we "lost" Fisher,HC is 10% of the equation... FIND a freaking QB dammit!

Our QB is 12th in Quarterback rating. Flacco and Smith are 2 of the worst red zone qbs and they led their teams to first round byes. We just need better coaching and better line play to make the playoffs. We do not need to trade away all our first round picks and be stuck like we were with wanny and never have a pick in the first round. Why would we give up our first pick next year to have a rookie QB this year who would lead us to a 3-13 record giving the Rams another top 5 pick next year?????

This is the type of mindset that has kept us irrelevant the past decade

Ehh Harbaugh with Alex Smith. Fisher with Kerry Collins. Gruden with Johnson. Coaching can go a long way. But I do totally agree we need to aggressively go all in on a QB. Unfortunately, that's something that Ireland has ran from.

With that being said, would you take Flacco or Smith (or Matt Moore for that matter) over Brady and Brees? Of course you wouldn't. That's what it's all about. Give your team the best possible chance to win. Matt Moore has looked good, but it hasn't been proven that he's a franchise QB. I subscribe to the Ron Wolf philosophy: keep drafting QBs until you know you have a franchise QB.

Agree with this 100%. Its funny, if we had an average RB, WR, LB or whatever we would all clamour for an upgrade but for some reason the QB position is treated differently and i have no idea why. If the QB is just ok, i hear from many people how we should just build around him and surround him with a better line, receivers, coach blah blah blah. Yeah, lets fix 6 positions as opposed to just one.

The fact is, if you dont have an elite qb you should always be looking for one. Always. If you wanna make excuses for mediocre qb play and think that you should just give him better pieces around him, become a jets fan. Thats what a bunch of their fans are saying about Sanchez and its ridiculous.

Need more proof that tells you the QB position is more important than ever? The Packers and Patriots have two of the worst defenses in the league, but they got the #1 seed in their respective conferences because they have franchise QBs. In the past, it would be very diffiult to have that type of success with such a bad defense. Ask Dan Marino and Warren Moon.

And yet, some want us to hold on to Matt Moore possibly being the answer? Alrighty then...

that is not true
It's not? Did we draft a QB last year? We've declined taking a QB with our 1st pick multiple times. We've never traded up. We've drafted 2 QBs during Ireland's time here. One was the Parcells senility pick of Pat White. The other was the 3rd pick of our draft at the end of the 2nd round. That's not aggressively seeking a QB. The only "aggressive" move for a QB would have been that terrible trade for Orton that Ireland wanted. Which I guess would have been aggressive albeit in an extremely misguided way.

Everyone wants a franchise QB but its not worth giving up the future for an unproven commodity

Think it was the coach not the mindset that held us back

That might be true if we didn't have FOUR offseasons to show us otherwise.

Ireland plays it "safe" hence never taking a playmaker in the early rounds. Dude is to GM's what Sparano is to HC's.... Scared to make a mistake.

Right so trading all our picks for 1 QB who has a incredibly high bust percentage makes sense to you so he has no picks to play safe on??

You would be wrong. The one time we had good qb play we won the division and that was with sparano as coach
Pennington is franchise QB now? LOL Right and according to everyone on here it was because of our cupcake schedule. When Moore started winning same excuse but nobody here realizes the pats have played 2 teams this year with winning records and have lost both games.

Maybe I misinterpreted what you meant by running away from it than. I'm not saying it was addressed well but it wasn't completely ignored. The first year Henne was drafted as our franchise qb. I think Ireland realized Henne wasn't the answer after last year. Multiple reports said that he was going to take ponder if he was avaible at our pick. I guess you could argue he should of gotten dalton. Personally I'm not too enthralled with him. I think he could be ok but I wouldn't want to tie our fates to him. I might be wrong though. So we missed out on ponder and he aggresively went after orton and according to reports Carson Palmer. When that didn't work he grabbed Matt Moore.

Listen. I'm not saying he used the best judgement in particular with orten but he took a far from laissez-faire approach. To me this offseason is his do or die in acquiring a potential franchise qb. No excuses. Succeed or fail
