Sean Payton was mentioned because he went from OC to HC and is without a doubt one of the 5 best coaches in the league. He's not going anywhere it was a counter argument that coordinators CAN have success in the NFL

I know his history, I'm just not sure why anyone thinks he would leave NO?

I'd go all in on Payton if he was available.

I appreciate the concern with Harbaugh, but if you're talking the surest bet, he's clearly the guy. His teams are always tough, he wins every year no matter where he goes. Before Harbaugh, SF was in a very similar slump to Miami. They had more talent, but he took over a BAD team that had been bad for a long time. Harbaugh's had his teams in the SB or a play away from the SB every season he's coached in the NFL. If you can get that, you do it. Like others, I don't anticipate Miami being a viable option for him, but from our side, he's clearly the surest thing.

Talent is awesome. Performance is truth.

I see Ross swinging and missing. But he will still be happy that Harbaugh is at his alma mater.

Did anyone else mention him besides me? I was replying to AustinTatious that the right coordinator can make the leap to being a head coach. Dan Quinn is that coordinator.

Ah, I see. Was just reading the names b/c I'm too lazy to dissect 18 pages of conversations.....

Mea Culpa :)

If REx Ryan becomes available. I would consider him.

And I hated the guy. past tense.

I think he actually has grown into a HC and has toned down his preseason talk even if his players did it for him this year.

I think he would make this defense better utilized. I think he would have a heads up on Jets and how they work internally. He has experience and even though he has screwed the QB thing I think he would be in perfect position to get it right here. He is aggresive in nature. He has taken his Jets to the playoffs and that was with buttfumble. He runs the rock with conviction.

Someone to consider IMHO if he becomes available.

Obviously there are numerous coordinators that succeed at the top job. If you get one that transitions well you are golden.

I don't have the raw numbers but it is my sense that the hit rate % for college coaches is much higher than pro coordinators. At least in the last decade.

I don't think we will get him but harbaugh just seems like the perfect fit for us.To straighten this mess out.

After the meatball was let go, My dark horse was (Giants DC) Perry Fewell.

If Philbin gets axed, my new dark horse is.... (Chiefs DC) Bob Sutton. Someone posted that DC's have a better view of the big picture which I concur.

That & Bob has worked w/ Rex in Nyc. He could keep Lazor as OC. There is a connection...

Bob is working w/ A Reid who was mentored by M Holmgren. BL could be considered part of the Holmgren coaching tree.

I'd love to see the #s backing that up

Reason #46 why Jim Harbaugh sucks: He ends team practices every day before 4 p.m. so he can watch Judge Judy.

Since no one has mentioned this, I HIGHLY DOUBT he will leave FSU, but if you're going for a college coach Jimbo Fisher HAS to be the guy you target. He's HUGE on program building. Having a vision. Florida State was really down when he took over. In four years he won a national championship. He's 48-10, undefeated in bowl games including a National Championship and Orange Bowl. He’s also learned underNick Saban and Bobby Bowden.

He has also maximized the Quarterbacks he’s had. Christian Ponder, E.J. Manuel, and Jameis Winston. 3 first round picks in 5 years. Ponder and Manuel should have never been first round picks. Jimbo did a great job building them up. Little did the Vikings and Bills know, that they were already as good as they were going to get. Jimbo is a QB guru.

If you are going to hire a college coach I don’t know who is a better fit. I'm baffled no one has mentioned him in a 19 page thread.

So this is my final list
#1 Dan Quinn DC Seahawks
#2 John Harbaugh HC Ravens
#3 Jimbo Fisher HC FSU
#4 Jim Harbaugh HC 49ers
#5 Jim Tomsula DL 49ers (was interim HC in between Harbaugh and Singletary and they blew out the Texans. So he’s the winningest HC in 49ers history  also was HC of the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe)

Also I know for a FACT that Tomsula interviewed for every Head Coaching job last off-season besides the Lions. Not all interviews get reported in the media.

What if Oakland snagged Harbaugh? His family loves the Bay Area...

My guess: Bimbo Fischer just signed a new 5 year deal at the beginning of this year making him one of the highest paid coaches in the country.

I'd breath a sigh of relief.

Gus Malzahn, Kevin Sumlin, and Art Briles all got extensions before this season. Yet there names are all over this thread :idk:
