Who forgives ricky for what he did?

I, DolFan31, forgive Ricky Williams on the following basis:

1.Playing under Wanny's system made him the focus of the offense, thus taking beatign after beating with each carry into the middle, with a horrible offensive line. He decided to smoke pot to ease the pain.
2. I believe it was Ricky who pressured Huzeinga to make changed within the team. Instead, he made Marino whatevertheheckhewassupposedtobe, and moved Speilman into GM, while keeping Wanny as HC. Wow he thought. Then very few changes with a crappy offensive line, ?'s at QB, and stupid, predictable game plan on both O and D.
3. He called Wannestedt to see what he could do. He wasnt sure Iif he could play under Wanny's system. What did he hear? "If you were my son, Id tell you to play football". That right there led him to think Wanny was just using him, as a slave. And Wanny was the slave driver. This is a guy who listens to Bob Marley. OF course he would think of this. Wouldnt you even if you didnt listen to Marley?
4. We all quit jobs we dont feel satisfied with. Why should he be any different? Its not the armed services, its not the Olympics, its a job. Its a sport. And nothing more.
5. I just want to win!

YouR blame on Wanny is complete utter nonsense!! Ricky knew what system he was getting into. Wanny ran the same system the year before with Lamar Smith.

Wanny never enslaved anyone. Ricky did it to himself by staying in, instead of taking a break. That was his choice! He did it because he has lots of incentives placed in his contract. Wanny and Co. never had to add a single incentive in that contract either. Instead they put in a bunch of easy ones, and two reachable ones. All so he could make 5 million instead of the LEAGUE MINIMUM!!!!

He did not just quit his job. What he did was he walked out on a signed contract. How many people work under contract?

And what? Thats why he needs to come back, anything to win. He might not be the difference maker, but he might be. Id give him a shot. Id rather know than wish I knew. In other words, I dont want to think about what couldve been.

I'm of a different style of thought. I believe we can win just the same or better without the man.

Get a grip folks. This has nothing to do with integrity. He committed a victimless act that hurt Ricky more than anyone. Unlike a Warren Moon who beat his wife, or a Ray Lewis who was part of a gang murder. He got high...he quit a job that sucked (and it did). Ricky, Miami, and Pro Football is NOT a moral barometer. You people need to get grounded in reality. It's a damn game its not a social commentary. The NFL is way to corrupt on a larger scale to start throwing daggers at one little pot head.

Isn't it pathetic how overblown the "Wanny-Ball" issue has become? I think you spelled it out clearly.

There are dozens of athletes a year who sit on signed contracts. They want more money, etc. Its nothing new. You guys don't care unitl it happens to you. But the same team that the athlete is supposed to be "loyal" to will cut their a$$ in a heartbeat if they are a second slower and it will save them salary cap room. Its "thank you for six great years but we don't want you".

It's just the way sports is.

What does that have to do with the point Ozzy was making?

I just don't base my ethics on entertainment, which is what sports is. Look the NFL forgives and harbours major felons all the time. They crap on their retired players who gave their bodies for the game. This league is about anything but loyalty. Look at what happened to Mike Webster.

I am all about values. In the home, in church, at schools, etc.

Not on Ricky failing a drug test and it forcing him to "quit".

I don't make that seperation. The man, willfully or not, makes an impact on our culture because of his status in life.........he just chooses not to acklowledge that side of his responsibility either.

Ricky asks you again, WHEN IS IT OK FOR HIM TO QUIT PLAYING FOOTBALL??

When his knee gives out? When his shoulders separete? When his an imparable disk? When he has too many concussions? I think he feels safer playing for Saban than under Wanny. Think about it. Why would he want to come back other than money? And so what if it was for money? Thats why most players are playing in the first place!

Or Richmond Webb. "Thank you Rich for your 10 year commitment to the team. Good bye."

It happens.

Why do you even ask that when now he's back???? That makes no sense whatsoever.......he could tear his knee up at any time......sh*t he could be paralyzed on a massive hit........don't give me that crap.
