I think the point of his assignment or whatever hes doing is to prove that very point. That statistically Nash is not the most valuable player, and was given it for other reasons (team winning %, Stoudamire's injury, race, etc...)

The easiest stat to go by is the +/- of on court/off court team play when the player is in. For instance the Suns were +8.8 when Nash was in the game in contrast to Wade whos team was +15.5. Thats both a testament to the play of the individual player and the quality of the depth behind them. Miami essentially has noone and the Suns have a quality player in Barbosa.

The other nice stat that can be used is late game performance. What really seperates Wade, Kobe and Lebron from Nash is that they carry their teams at the end of the game. Nash just isnt the physical marvel that these other players are. Wade and Lebron dominate in the last few minutes of a game.....raise their game to a new level.

compare how the team plays without Marion to how they play without Nash. huge difference.

Actually its not...especailly when you take into consideration the minutes Marion has played this year compared to Nash.

I'm talking about entire games, but even so, while Marion did average 40 minutes a game, Nash averaged over 35, which is a good chunk of time each night. The team can go a spell without Nash when the other team's second squad is out. But when we talk entire games without Nash: The Suns were 2-5 without Nash this year and often looked terrible.

But "statistics" are a very small part of MVP. The problem I have with a lot of people on this board (the initial poster not included as this is a project) is that they argue "player A is better than player B, he scores X points per game, andp layer B scores Y".

Numbers can't solely make an argument, not even for MVP. not saying they're not important, but the Suns couldn't win the Pacific Division if they were without Nash for the entire season, even with Amare.

I'm not saying I couldn't even entertain others winning the MVP this year--Lebron certainly was a viable candidate as well. But why everybody treats Nash like he's crap is beyond me.

Nash is a point gaurd that what he suppose to do. Pass the ball. The other players are F and G and they are suppose shot or post up and shot.
then i guess quarterbacks can never been MVP.

Amars argument can be applied to any position.

"oh, centers are SUPPOSED to block shots and grab rebounds. Small forwards are supposed to score in bundles!"

Even without Amare, Nash had a far stronger supporting cash Than LBJ & Kobe.

1. LeBron James
2. Kobe Bryant
3. Elton Brand
4. Dirk Nowitzski
5. Dwyane Wade/Chauncey Billups

I can't stand the lack of love for Elton Brand though. It's disgusting. :shakeno:

*awaits bulleyesguy to down my personal opinion that players who don't play defense should not be considered as league MVP*

I am a brand fan myself, but i just took the top 4 contenders according to nba.com.

I dont watch Suns Bball but this entire playoffs I have watch every game and I have watch NASH turnover the ball more at the end of close game then anyone I have EVER seen.

better than a superstar only taking 3 shots in the second half and blowing it.

Without Nash Suns would not have any direction Marion's stats would drop big time.

Did you see how many times he pass the ball. Obviously you didnt see how the lakers beat the suns. Kobe shooting a bazillion shot isnt going to win the game. Game 7 the whole team seem to give up and that includes kobe.

Nash is the best point guard in the league but I wouldnt pick him to build my team around. I will pick Lebron.

And yes they are suppose to that but to dominate a game day in and day out is something different. Such as Shaq, Hakeem, Duncan, Kareem etc. They did more then rebound and block hence why they won the MVP or else Ben Wallace would of won it at least once.
