Why the Season was a Failure

Im hoping McD grows into his role as a leader. We need some bullies on both sides of the ball though and fast. You make some great points you never would see Brady and Smellicek goofing on the sidelines even in victory. I know I know, swag, it’s a new era, players coach etc it just doesn’t get the results we all want
It might be a new era in terms of those things, but if the new era teams routinely get beat by the old era teams in the NFL, then the new era is a loser, and no team should strive for that approach.

The Titans game was a study in the team's ineffective culture. The Dolphins played poorly in that game and were gifted the lead by the Titans' unforced errors. Amidst that poor performance the Dolphins did their typical rehearsed end zone celebrations, as if they were somehow playing well and such elaborate celebrations were in order. Then of course we know what happened in the final three minutes -- a charge by the Titans that was unmatched by the Dolphins, resulting in one of the most improbable wins in NFL history. In all the game was indicative of a team -- once again -- entertaining with fun and games, while unable to switch gears and get down to business when the need arose. In fact the video in the original post here was made the day after that game, when it became readily apparent the Dolphins' team culture was highly amiss.
That Titans game was so telling. We had 5 minutes of more possession time. We scored 2 TDs in the Titans game off 4 plays and 19 yards. The other TD was gifted to us from Sieler. FIrst Monday Night Home game in 6-7 years. Flat as hell. Our Energy didnt match the importance of that game, knowing the jets, Girls, Ravens and Jills were up next.

I cant imagine the season and the discussion in this string if the Jets or Patriots Offense didnt each set football back 50 years. We also spotted a terrible 2 win panthers team 14 points, and the benefit of playing two trainwreck teams the Commanders and Giants.

The season ultimately ended up as a failure because McDaniel had no answer for DC who took away the routes and players he kept forcing things to. Some of his concepts were awesome, unfortunately he did not create enough depth and layers to his offense so he was not able to change when other teams forced him to do so. If coach doesn't figure this out, he will not be around here for the long term.
His quirky personality and lack of alpha male personality have very little to do with the teams success.

Bingo.

Because ultimately, it ended the same way as last year, not winning the AFC East title and losing in an embarrasing fashion on the road in the first round of the playoffs. This time, we had our starting QB and most of our offense too.
Yup, that was the excuse last year and everyone was all, "it's because we didn't have Tua", now we have him and it was everyone else's fault. Well guess what people. It's Tua and mcdaniels fault first and foremost, griers right behind them. Same shits gonna happen next year. Just watch

The question is whether a goofball coach is consistent with winning in the tough and aggressive game of football. There's a lot of room between goofball and hard-ass. Dan Campbell for example isn't a hard-ass, but he's nowhere near a goofball. Same for Mike Tomlin.

And it's entirely possible the team can buy in in a way that's also inconsistent with winning. If the team buys in for an entertainment circus exemplified by rehearsed end zone celebrations and the inability to bear down with seriousness and determination when the need arises, all the buy in in the world won't result in winning big. It'll simply be a group of players AND their coach who are all on the wrong page together, generating an ineffective team culture that doesn't win in the NFL. They've all bought in, but they've bought in to something that doesn't win.

For sure. And it's a valid question. But I feel like why this season failed wasn't due to that. They didn't lose to the Bills/Ravens/Chiefs IMO due to how McDaniel is on the sideline/practice/film sessions.
They lost due to players not executing and the play calling being less than desired.

Now, now if McDaniel is a goof 24/7 and lets the players run the show, then yea it'll be a failure. But I havent seen anything yet about discipline issues with McDaniel-yet.

Leadership has always been lacking on this team since #13 retired and the circus atmosphere will continue to doom this team until some strong leaders, starting at the top take control of the team.

I don’t think style has anything to do with it. You either have the players or you don’t. I’d wager big money if McDaniel took over the Ravens they’d be even better than they are now and if John Harbaugh was coaching this Dolphins team they wouldn’t have sniffed the playoffs.
Wow, just wow

Tyreek to another Dolphins player "If you screw up...F*** it!"

Dolphin player to Don Shula after Shula came unglued to him about a penalty..."Coach, it's only a small mistake..." Shula: "What's a small mistake?!!!!"

BIG DIFFERENCE in the two cultures. Undiscipline teams never make it very far in January. Period!

You literally think that after practice, they went over to Tyreek Hill's house, hired a professional choreographer and had 4 hour rehearsals in his kitchen.

I get it, you're probably in your 60's. Wake up it's not 1977 anymore. It's a different player and culture today.
That’s a bit harsh. You might not exist if it wasn’t for someone in their 60s. How old is your father? The truth is in the middle, McD can continue to be able to communicate and relate to modern age players, but he needs to also increase discipline throughout the team. We had far too many self inflicted penalties.

BTW, when will we receive our “Participation Trophy”? 🤣

No because if they had beaten the Titans they would have played the Steelers at home in the playoffs even with losing to the Ravens and Bills to end the season. The Dolphins would have been the #2 seed, the Bills would have been the #6 seed, and the Steelers would have been the #7 seed. But I do agree with you that the Dolphins are a soft team.
Youre also assuming we beat the Jets

Kicked arse against average or crap teams but against better teams they were found out.
No depth at positions especially Defense and O-Line.
Injuries screwed up any realistic chance of playoff success.

Either we met our goals or we did not. our goals weren't to have a QB lead the NFL in passing yards, our goals weren't to have 5 or more players make the pro bowl. our goals weren't to have a WR lead the NFL in receiving yards. the goal was to win the division and/or win a post season game, something we haven't done in over 20 years and over 15 years. that did not happen. we failed our goals.
