Why would anyone take Pitts over Smith?

Because smith is 150 pounds soaking wet and will get broke into pieces in the NFL. Also, Smith is a product of his team and will not be half as good in the NFL.

Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one. I prefer Pitts, Waddle, Smith, Chase in that order.

THAT is just a straight up ridiculous statement. Yes, he has a slim frame, but don’t exaggerate the truth.
Many...MANY players with similar size have been durable and had successful loooong careers. Marvin Harrison, TY Hilton, Deshawn Jackson and Will Fuller just to name a few.
As far as him NOT going to be a good NFL player? Do yourself a favor and watch some more tape of him. Watch him outrun and then outpace every CB he faced. He has pure “football on-the-field speed” and playmaker abilities. He is by far the smoothest route runner in the draft and gets open consistently with separation. Both of which we need desperately!

His size will be beaten to death only from those who hate him.

Imo most players, not all but most, who have it so easy in college, cannot make the transition to the pros well. There is a reason the average score in college is a lot more than the NFL. Once this dude plays against players that are all his speed, a lot bigger and stronger and just as fast, he will have problems. Also, do you really think he can be counted on to block well? Pitts will have so much more domination in the blocking aspect of the game.

Comparing the stats of two players in different positions, for different programs is very much appeal to oranges. It’s not where the debate should begin or end.
The draft is all about who the better prospect will be.
there are very few red flags on Pitts while for Smith his weight and frame are a big concern. You don’t often see 160 pound WRs dominating the league.
Durability is a concern

Wasn't Pitts 7 for 129 and a TD against Bama in that title game? Hardly chump change for a TE and when compared to arguably the best WR coming out in the draft those stats aren't much different considering you are comparing an Apple to an Orange.
That Bama D is no joke!!

He had it EASY in College? So Playing in the SEC is easy, since when???
I’m not an SEC homer, but that’s not a valid argument at all, in fact it completely invalidates your argument. Again, go watch him out run and get open against THE BEST CB’s in college. Then when Waddle got injured, he simply elevated his game and became unstoppable.

To be honest here, I love what Pitts brings and am a big fan of his. But I’m not comparing a WR to a TE, bc it’s 2 totally different positions. To talk about a WR blocking abilities is kinda pointless as it pertains to NFL potential. A WR blocking has much more to do with effort and attitude than it does physical ability.
Regardless, I would be happy with Pitts or Smith or Waddle or Chase. Maybe in that order, although with me Pitts and Smith are a much closer call as to which I prefer. Chase is my least favorite of the 3 as I think he more closely resembles what we already have and doesn’t get the separation the others do. Just my opine!!!

Well... for one thing... 12 games per year as opposed to 17 plus pre and post seasons...

Then there's the bottom 6 teams in the SEC which are laughably bad...

This, "he played in the SEC thing" is WILDLY overstated, and overvalued. The best teams in the SEC might be challenged 2-3 times all year.

Don’t disagree with your point about it being a concern, I just don’t place as much value in it as others do. I love what Pitts brings, so my statements that follow are not an argument for the support of Smith over Pitts, but more of a clarification as to statements made about Smith.
His durability was never a concern in College.
His weight is not 150 or 160 as some have suggested.
Many great WR’s similar to his size and build have been very successful and proven durable.

Smith has outperformed him every year!
Because Smith reminds me of Pat White and I still suffer PTSD from that draft. I worry about Smith's size. If we draft him and Grier thinks about making Smith a backup QB/WR, full blown drop the mic and I am going to burn my jerseys ... :bnkr:

Didn't he miss the 2nd half of the championship game because he got injured?

Then what’s your argument for EVERY other player in college? This statement makes ZERO sense. They all play 12 games a year, unless your Smith and a few other teams bc he played 15 a year twice and 14 another year. What’s your point here?

Using your logic you wouldn’t draft anyone, as they all play fewer games and play against lesser competition from week to week. Again, what’s your point?

The SEC thing is wildly overstated? By whom is it overstated, because the SEC dominates in drafted players by the NFL teams themselves. The fact remains he played against the VERY BEST college football has to offer, regardless of conference and dominated. What else you want the guy to do?

Smith has been my "best player of the draft" for a while now. Don't really care who agrees/doesn't agree. I would of taken him at 3 without any hesitation. If u can get him at 6 and add to your plate, even better.

I just have never seen somebody do it so effortless at that level. No concern at all that he won't be equally as dominant on Sundays.
Weight never concerned you?
