Will people BELIEVE in this team if they beat the Patriots in Week 1?

I will believe this team means business if we win. The Pats will score ALOT this year, and if we stop them, and win. We are real. If Brady sees any holes in our defense, he will exploit it until we fix it. If we can't cover, we are done. Let's watch those TE's defense!

Are you hoping we lose? Whether or not I like what the management / coaches have done, come Sunday I will root like hell for the Dolphins to kick the *** of every team they are playing. I hope that you, and every other finheaven member here are too.

Of course I am, and I will hope like hell that we win. But I look at the talent and coaching on the teams and it quite frankly isn't there for the Dolphins.

No, everyone will just make excuses for the Patriots if we beat them.

Dr. Phin is basically saying that we don't stand a chance against the Pats and that they will sweep us. (Let's face it, if we don't win game one it will be pretty hard not to get swept.) Do you realize how rare that is? I went back the last ten years:

The Dolphins have had five head coaches. The Patriots have had Bill Belichick.
The Dolphins have had fifteen starting quarterbacks. The Patriots have had Tom Brady (and Matt Cassel one year)
The Dolphins have won no playoff games. The Patriots have won fourteen.
The Dolphins regular season record has been 75-85. The Patriots has been 121-39.

Despite all of that, the Dolphins record against the Pats is 7-13. They have been swept only three times, in years where the Pats combined record has been 44-4. The Patriots have had an easier time going to Super Bowls (going to 4) than they have sweeping the Dolphins. Tom Brady constantly says they are the toughest team he plays against.

By the way, people say the Jets are the biggest threat to the Pats. Their record against them the last ten years is 6-14.

I believe the Patriots have a better coaching staff and are more talented than the Dolphins this year, but the Patriots have lost to much worse Dolphins teams in the past. The Patriots can and should win this game but I'm not going to be surprised if they lose. For whatever reason the Dolphins (and Broncos) always give Brady/NE trouble.

Does a win make a statement no matter what? Or would they have to stomp the Patriots in order to make believers out of people?

Unfortunately everyone will believe that the Patriots had a brain fart and that they were sleepwalking out there. Because no one will ever give us any credit.

It would be a nice 1st step, nothing more IMO.

That's definitely true with the local media up here. In the Brady era, no team has ever won a game against the Patriots. The Pats always lose it instead. Sometimes it's funny to hear some of the media guys scramble to make excuses for why their precious team didn't win though.

how do you look up Henne's career stats vs New England? I know he has put some yards up on them in a couple of games.

2010 Week 3: 28/38, 305 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT - loss
2010 Week 17: 6/16, 71 yards, 0TD, 1INT - loss
2009 Week 8: 19/34, 219 yards, 0TD, 0 INT - loss
2009 Week 13: 29/52, 335 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT - Win

Hm -think the main reason he puts up so much yards against the Pats is because...he throws it a hell of a lot more when we play em. In last year's games he definitely blew, but he didn't get any help from the line/running game. In the only win in 2009, Ricky had a decent day running the ball, Chad had a decent day throwing it, and Brady threw 2 picks. I beg you Chad Henne, just throw more TDs than INT for this one game, and our chances of winning go up exponentially.

The only thing I could give any ****s about is winning. ANYONE could come to where I live and say or do anything they want to me. It means zip if the Dolphins win the game.

I remember a few years ago the Bills came out and put a whoopin on the Pats 31-3 in the opener, only for the Pats to go on and win the superbowl.

You can't take anything from a week 1 game.

The infamous Bledsoe Bowl. In the season finale that year the Pats beat the Bills by the same exact score, lol.
