Wish we hadn't signed Chambers to that long contract.

Using this as proof is implying they have equal QB play, quality of passes, opportunities, supporting cast, and schemes.

No it does not.

It would be impossible to make comparisons of players on different teams if all of them had to meet the criteria you set.

Who the hell throws the ball to the poor guy??????? Nobody.. That is what seperates him from being GREAT! the idiot that posted this should be drug out into the street and shot. why the hell did we cut Berlin????????

This is a funny thread, who do we blast next, Taylor, Thomas? Sure Chambers has underachieved up to this point. He hasn't met his potential and he hasn't honed his skills, because why?
The quarterbacks have been a big reason but look at our coaching phlosophy up to this year. Under our previous coach the long pass was a not an option or at best was a last resort . He didn't believe in it and made that fact well known so I wonder why Chambers hasn't had a 1000 yard season? How quickly we forget, remember how frustraited Marino got because the previous coaches changed the schemes designed for his passing and didn't let him air it out even though we didn't have a consistant running game yet. Even Norv Turner voiced his dislike of the way his calls were changed on the sideline.
Chambers has been better than average receiver so far and I will refrain from being critical of him until I see how he does under a different system and a different coach. This preseason is too early to jump on him until the confidence is there and they have a chance to build a chemistry on offense.

BINGO! You hit the truth of the matter right on the head and didn't even realize it my fellow fin fan. You can't compare. Sure the fantasy footbal guys need this kind of crap to make their day go by, but in real football, you just can't compare. You can compare Tiger Woods to Jack Nicklaus, or Lance Armstrong to Jan Ulrich, but those are individual sports. Tiger is hitting the same sized ball into the same sized hole, so within reason, the two can be compared. But with football being the ultimate team sport, there are simply too many variables involved to compare two players. What you should be arguing is whether or not CC has the skills, not the numbers, to be an elite WR. Is he fast? Does he have good hands? Does he run hard, good routes? Can he go up for a ball and get it? Can he catch over the middle with toughness? IMO, the answer to all those questions, which are the only ones that really matter, is yes. If CC doesn't have good numbers, then I say fix the system and/or get a new QB. Which is what we've done. So sit back, sip a cold Bud Light, and see if this is the right system and QB for him to excel.

EXACTLY!!!! Which is exactly what you did by listing all those other WRs that are "supposedly" so much better than Chris.

Case closed.

I'm glad we signed him long term, he is a good WR...

but the something that makes him great is not quite there... I agree with you, Superself, to an extent..

That something would be a QB that can throw the ball

But that is your criteria...not mine...and certainly not everyone's.

Honestly, how can you say the QB's ability, patterns, and coverage(i.e. another top WR to draw all the double teams) doesn't play into the equation?

82 Balls were not caught by Chambers when he was the main target. I believe that 50-60% of those were due to poor passing...and the rest were dropped balls.

All true and I don't fault Chambers for poorly thrown balls. The balls he should have caught are the ones I'm faulting him for...similar to the one he should have caught on Saturday.

.

You do realize how ridiculous this makes you look?

You are saying that Chris Chambers dropped around 40 passes last year....

Sorry dude...but this might be the dumbest thread in the history of finheaven.

40 PASSES!!!! Forget about re-signing him! Just take him out back and shoot him!...Cut his azz right Now! HE DROPPED 40 PASSES!!!!!

BTW....stats Inc. needless to say thinks you are out of your mind.

Dude calm down.

I was making a simple estimate which was probably off. My whole point wasn't based on it anyway.
:rolleyes2

It does play into the equation. But there are no hard facts to use that I know of to offset everyone's numbers to accomodate for it.
WRs are not ranked based on that criteria either.

In addition, if Chambers goes on to have another <1000 yard year, are we to use the same excuse as years past?

it depends on whether the team even cracks 3000 yards passing or not. they barely did last year.

I have a feeling if we let chambers go and he signed on with a team who has a good qb and made the pro bowl, the same dude who started this thread wouldve started one that we should have never let chambers go. I have to try and start ignoring this stuff.
