WR Jarvis Landry may have been drafted as WR Brian Hartline's eventual replacement

I really really do not understand what we're doing at receiver... I just don't get it. We have 4 good receivers and we draft 2 other guys... Who are we cutting or planning to trade? Why draft a guy for the practice squad when we could have drafted a guy that could really compete for a spot at another position?

Wallace shouldn't have been signed to that contract in the first place. Hartline deserved that money, Wallace? Not even close....

That is too funny. You think Hartine deserved the money Wallace got? Hartline probably didn't even deserve what Miami re-signed him for. I consider myself a fan of Hartline's and I still want him on the team, but the Dolphins can certainly upgrade from what he offers.

just got done watching the pittsburgh game in the snow. Hartline is no ordinary WR.

Hartline is a good WR. He does have ome drops every now and then. He also is poor in YAC. If he has another 1000 yard season I think phins will keep him. If not this could be last year.

Landry I think will play slot and is a threat to Gibsons position and not Hartline this year. Hazell is a threat for Mathews #4 position. And we have lots of WRs fighting for #5.

What, like getting open and the QB unable to hit him with the deep ball?

Or our WR's dropping passes that hit them in the hands or the chest. The timing of our passing game had more issues than just the QB.

I like Hartline, but is it just me or does it seem like he is hurt a lot?

Hartline is a solid #3. He's put up good numbers..and he is pretty reliable. He's great at working the sidelines..but I agree you HAVE to have guys that get in the end zone. Wallace can score but he's not really a RZ target. I'm hoping Landry can emerge in that role.
That said Hartline ain't going nowhere...he is Tannehills go to guy until prove otherwise.

Watch WRs on legit playoff teams and tell me again if you think Hartline isn't an ordinary WR.

I think Hartline could have started for Indy, San Diego or KC last year. And I'm sure he would have started for New England.

OR.......

He couldve been drafted to add another talented WR to our roster. Seeing as in week 17 we were left with Wallace and Matthews of our initial top 5, Id say this is the strongest possibility.

If we wanted to replace Hartline, we would need to add another WR when the time comes to actually remove Hartline from our roster. I dont see how Hartline isnt on our roster this year. Therefore Landry is here to simply be another good WR. If we move on from Hartline after this season, then we will need to add another player.

I know this though............... the WR battle for roster spots and depth chart positioning in camp and preseason will be really interesting this year.

Ahhhh, you gotta love competition. The only safe WR in my eyes is Mike Wallace because of his skill set. Everybody else has been put on notice. If you can't stay healthy, if you drop the ball too much, if you continue to run the wrong routes and not be able to pickup the playbook . . . we are bringing in guys that will take your spot. No more UDFA competition that Jeff Ireland used to bring in as camp fodder.

This is NOT a bad thing. This offense depends on the reliability of WRs so much . . . let them all compete and may the best man win.

Absolutely. Hartline has been a terrifically productive player for us and great value for how we acquired him. But if we're dedicating that much salary at a position that sees every snap then we need a player who can bring more to the offense.

He has brought "more to the offense" than any receiver on the team the last 2 years and HE is the one that people are saying that needs to be replaced???

Why, because he isn't flashy? I'll take back to back 1,000 yard seasons over flash.

If Hartline had Peyton Manning as his QB, he'd be Marvin Harrison. I have no idea why anyone would hate on our most productive receiver the last two seasons.

Agreed on everything above. BUT, we can't ignore one simple truth that every team knows. You're not afraid that B.Hartline is gonna score on you! Yeah he might catch alot of passes and tip toe the sideline and make great catches. But, it not as scary as 1 out of every 10 catches might be a TD from him!

Think about M.Wallace he is not as polished with his routes, hands etc compared to Mr.Hartline. But, which as a defense scares the hell outta you? M.Wallace of course! Why? Because if he catch 10 balls easily 1,2,3,4 of those might be TDs. Almost no chance Hartline is taking 1 of those catches in for a TD!

So if one guy can consistently score or threaten to score because of his speed. Then imo his complement should be able to also score because of some other skill-set( YAC, Physicality, something).

Our offense needs to be alot more potent than that. Your starting receivers should all have the capability to score whenever they touch the ball...PEROID. IF not your offense is inherently already crippled!

I think Landry's best work in the NFL will come from the slot. All his positive traits show there. I think he'll do fine on the boundary, but for the immediate future, I see us keeping Hartline (unless the injury concerns are worse than expected).
