2011 Overrated/Underrated Prospects

Barkley put up 5 TD's in one game last night. Beck would be lucky to put up 5 TD's in his NFL career. Barkley has "it." He's going to be a #1 overall pick in the near future. Probably the only good things for USC last night was Barkley and Marc Tyler.

Yeah, Tyler looked great. Great feet for a guy listed at like 220 pounds. It's a shame he can't stay healthy. The kid can play. Looks almost exactly like a supercharged version of his dad. Either way, the Browns will probably take him with a 2nd round pick next year.

Despite his stats Barkley underwhelmed me a bit. I mean, Hawaii's defense is truly, truly awful. Next week against Virginia should be a better test.

I like Wright as a prospect, but the USC secondary didn't play well last night... including Wright...

Jurrell Casey was the most impressive defensive player on the field last night... His quickness off the snap and motor in pursuit is unmatched... He looks like another Sedrick Ellis in the making...

Casey is really good. I enjoy watching him play. Stupid penalties didn't help either. Starling and McDonald need work. Kennard is overplaying the ball.

I believe that was my favorite "guy for next year" at DT in our Sun Sentinel piece.

Underrated - Owen Marecic. Awesome guy and screams Parcells player. If we didn't have Polite, I could definitely see him as a Dolphin next year.

Ayers was a one man wrecking crew against Kansas St.... the rest of UCLA's defense look like they went to the Sean Smith school of tackling...

UAB wide receiver Frantrell Forrest... another underrated weapon for coach Callaway's offense along with TE Jeff Anderson... I like this Forrest kid as a prospect.

Staying with the overlooked conference theme... Marshall linebacker Mario Harvey is another underrated prospect, more often than not it looks like there's 3 of him out there making plays for Marshall's defense...

Childs and Binns are beasts at WR IMHO. They run great routes and have good size and speed. I see them making contributions in the league.

Gotta say I like Murray at RB though. I dont see him as overrated.

I almost never come to this forum. I gotta start coming here more often to get some knowledge kicked down by the best poster on the site, TedSlimmJr.

Dr. Slimm, what do you think of the Neild kid that plays NT for the mountaineers. I watch all of their games, and I feel like he could be a decent NFL player on the interior defensive line. Im not sold on him making an impact right away, but I think he is a project at least, but I wouldnt rule out him being a pretty solid starter in the NFL either. Thoughts? Have you seen any of him?

He is one of the few mountaineers I think can make it in the league. People are talking like Hogan has a shot at CB, but Im not big on him myself. Scooter Berry does a pretty good job on the DL too. Thomas has had a nice career at LB for the mounties, but Im thinking he is very borderline as far as being a pro.

Offensively, I think we have a couple of receivers who run very nice routes and are underrated because of their size.(Starks) Plus they are overshadowed by the 3 guys who make a lot of plays on their offense. Im not big on Noel Devine's skills transferring to the league, nor Jock Sanders. But, Tavon Austin I think could make some plays in the league.

I've watched Neild play for 3 years, and he gets better every year. I haven't gotten into focusing on nose tackle prospects in this year's class yet other than eliminating the one's that I don't think are legitimate 0-techniques... but I think Neild is certainly a strong NT candidate...

I remember he led all West Virginia defensive lineman in tackles as a sophomore from his NT position... he's extremely active and disruptive... flows down the line of scrimmage well and has a terrific motor... I watched him play a hell of a game in a losing effort against LSU earlier in the year... and still have some great matchups on film that I look forward to watching of him versus some my top center prospects such as Ryan Bartholomew and Sampson Genus...

Neild doesn't get the hype that he deserves... he's been a very, very productive and durable rock on the Mountaineer line his entire career... and obviously plays in a "30" front... which gives him the upper hand on a lot of prospects who will be looked at by teams as potential nose tackle in the NFL...

I'm not a big Devine, or Jock Sanders fan as big time NFL prospects.... but the kid to watch out for next year is Tavon Austin... THAT is a legitimate play maker...

Brandon Hogan has all the tools to be a starting caliber NFL CB, but off field issues are going to hurt his stock, which is a common theme among several of the better CB's in this year's class it seems...

The two guys I like best off West Virginia's defense are Neild and Robert Sands.....
