FinHeaven Fantasy NFL Keeper Draft

Love it if guys would put their rationales behind the picks too...I would like to read that...
Jake Long - Our #1 pick last year. Franchise LT. Still very young. No brainer

Ronnie Brown - IMO Brown is one of the 6 or 7 best backs in the league. He is an all around player and can block, receive and rush very well.

Vernon Carey - I honestly kinda flip-flopped around for this pick. We lack real star players, so thats what made it so hard. It came down to Will Allen and Carey for me. Maybe Crowder. I went Carey because I feel like Tackle is such an important position. I didnt feel Henne was worth using a keep on, and Chad is older with injury issues and certain limitations. I love him, but he wasn;t worth a keeper for me.

Chargers:
Philip Rivers- One of the top QBs in the game today
Cromartie- solid cover guy, a freakish athlete
McNeil- Great guy to build the o-line around.

my team

Hi All,
This thread is a bit of a spin off of an idea I posted in the Dolphins Forums. (http://www.finheaven.com/forums/f2/who-would-be-your-dolphins-keepers-246905.html?posted=1#post1062906514post1062906514)
The post got good response and many wanted to execute this actual idea.
Here's the premise:
Due to impending CBA doom, the NFL has decided to make all players free agents and place them into a draft.
Each team is allowed to protect 3 players to prevent them from going into the pool.
The idea is to include 32 people to take each of the NFL teams. Each person designates 3 players "keepers" who do not go into the pool of FA's.
Once all teams are filled and keepers designated we will follow the order of the 2009 NFL draft to make it easy. I'll make sure every team has a pick and no team has 2 picks.
Think just like a regular fantasy draft, where each round is reversed. Therefore the Steelers get the #32 and #33 pick in the draft.
Remember to draft/keep not based on fantasy points, but based on in real life who would you want to build a team around. Remember to factor in age and positional demand of the players. When you pick a team, copy and paste what is below (most recent added) and add your name and players. I'll try to keep this updated. Copy the most recent addition to it (even if I didn't update it.) Until you physically sign your name to the sheet you are not counted. Sorry about being kind of a jerk about that but it would get annoying inputing 32 people.

A mods help may be needed for this. I may be PMing people if this takes off. Thanks in advance. Also if someone can sticky this it would be great.

Have Fun!

first, pick a team that is not already chosen. after you have selected the team, choose three "franchise players" to keep on the team. the rest of the players will go into a free agent pool from which the participants will draft to fill out the rest of the teams.

that part is pretty clear but what do we do with the teams once they've been drafted

nice one dude... I wondered who would step up and take the Chargers... IMHO they were the ones with the most options... That team has such depth... what were your other considerations? Any thoughts to LT? or Merriman?

I have some thoughts...Merriman is a roidhead that will probably have either injuries or suspensions because of it, and LT is almost washed up, and surely will be in a few years. Too old to build a team around.

Very interesting that you didn't take Bush. Don't think that he is an every-down? I am not saying that I do, but it was just interesting that you kept Pierre.

For the Patriots...

Tom Brady-Best QB in the league, you don't let go of that.

Vince Wilfork- Build your line and what better way to start with one of the best run stoppers in the league.

Jerod Mayo- 22 year old rookie of the year linebacker, hard to find young stud linebackers.

lot of interesting teams left
I took the Raiders because long term I liked this threesome more than any other team left.

Jamarcus Russel- Started to show why he was the top rated qb in his draft class .Only 23 and playing for a bad team. Prototype size and tools.

McFadden- 21 years old, has good all around skills, should be a top level back with a good eam around him.

nmambi- Best corner in football to cornerstone defense.

Carolina Panthers

-Jon Beason- An absolute beast and which i believe he can be an amazing mlb for years to come. Has the speed and awareness to stop any runningback in his tracts and also is a good coverage mlb. Basically and all around guy. His name should be Jon Beaston.

-Steve Smith- Has been a dominate force at Wr. Yeah he is a small guy but his speed, jumping ability, and just ability to get wide open is awesume. The man is no Todd Pinkston he will catch the ball even if he knows he is going to get laid out. Top 5 best receivers in the game no doubt.

-DeAngelo Williams- First off all let me say he was snubbed of getting into the pro bowl and absolute stud. He is very quick and dynamic just look at last year 1515 yards, 18 tds and a 5.5 avg wow now thats sick. A great player to build your franchise around

Sucks its hard leaving Peppers out he is such a beast when healthy but these guys are the franchise players in my mind especially when he doesn't even want to be with this franchise

.Other notables

-Richard Marshall they dropped ken lucas who is an excellent cornerback to start this guy i guess they think he is a key franchise player

-Chris Gamble awesume player 20 picks in 5 years but 13 in his first is crazy

On a side note, when everyone picks their keepers and we get to draft, can we randomize the order? I probably would have picked a team that was drafting higher if I would have known a.)we were actually going to do this and b.)it was the order of this year's draft. Let's do it random.

Knowing my luck when we do it like that the Ravens will pick lower than my already 26.

I would be against radomizing the order....the teams at the top mostly have a clear disadvantage as to the players available to keep. I picked the Rams to have a high pick, and have marginal keepers because of it (but slightly better than the Lions offered)

I had Washington.

Haynesworth- the 100 million dollar man. IF he plays like he has been he will shore up the middle of that Dline still for many more years

Cooley- Fan favorite since Taylor got shot. reliable TE for any QB that comes in

Portis- Workhorse. Even with his moaning and bitchin last year he still carries the team
