Harris will be to the DL what James was to the OL: pure MEH.

Off topic but I noticed lots of teams had already picked up the 5th year option with their 2014 draft picks. When is the deadline for James and will we pick it up?

I doubt it I think his 5th year is like 8.4 million or something, we can probably get him to resign cheaper at around 5.5 million a year

I mean the combine does raise legit questions, but let's be clear Charles Harris was drafted to be a pass rush specialist early and the hope becomes he develops into a good run defender. The one thing you can say is that it's not disinterest, he will over pursue (something Cam Wake still does quite a bit) and there are some times where he just didn't bring the player down (which is another issue). But in terms of pure pass rusher? Pretty good.

I just looked at 5 different scouting reports and got a different player comparison for each; Connor Barwin, Jerry Hughes, Shane Rey, Ryan Kerrigan, and Mevlin Ingram. If he became what any of those players became we'd take that no? Now granted he could become a Bjorn Werner too but I think the biggest difference is explosiveness.

At the end of the day, I don't think we have to worry about him being Dion Jordan which is great

All these salty experts. Yall would NEVER be satisfied. Dont get me wrong I would love to see Foster thumping in our LB core, but you need to keep perspective of the reality of our roster.

Do you know if 35yr old Wake goes down, we have ZERO pass rush? aka bye bye season, quite literally. Branch is mediocre and Hayes is a run stopper.

This kid is arguably the best pure pass rusher in this draft, he just needs to develop run D. Hes in a great situation to come in on 3rd downs/challenge Branch for time while developing his run D.

And he has an alpha personality. Has more than one rush move, plays violent and with energy. His tape doesnt lie. We need his ability.

Extremely happy with pick; I thought he'd be gone and we'd be looking at Charlton.
We have Wake's replacement in hand. Where will Harris play? He's gonna spell 35 year old Cam (keeping Cam fresh), and they'll both be in there on passing downs. Next year, watch for their roles to reverse as Cam heads into retirement. Excellent pick.

2nd round target a DB. Prefer a CB, but would sigh and accept a Safety.

Wasnt he projected to go in the teens, High motor, High caracter guy. Not bad IMO. or do I want a freak athlete with no motor, huge upside..hmmmmm how did that work out for us last time with Dion??? the Next Jason Taylor, reminds me of Demarcus Ware "dumb ass mayock". I will stick with a solid pick with high caracter that can take Cam´s place when retires or injures. HE IS 35. Branch cost us 9 mill per and he is meh.
I am not ecstatic but I wonder eho every one else would have taken there? Rueben was the one I wanted but if 31 other teams passed on him because of medical NOT INTERESTED, didnt DION have an injured shoulder when we drafted him. Actually shows me this REGIME is one thing SMART and SAAVY. calculated risks LIKE TUNSIL. second day if we can draft one of the 4 remaining lineman and a Safety we in great positon.
Peace out

I didn't watch any tape this year, so I'm curious. Did his lack of top level production come from not finishing plays, then? I also heard he had an excuse for the bad combine

Not really. The effort is there, and he shows great burst. When I say not finishing plays I mean broken tackles. He needs to be more disciplined against the run. He sells out so options got him, and there were times he over pursued the plays and they bounced outside. But he's got a dangerous first step and spin move.

If you believe that we had 2 trade offers and we still ran the card on him up there should tell you all you need to know. As long as we go LB in the 2nd it's gonna be hard to hate the pick. Both are positions of need and as long as we get quality at both I will be pleased.

At the end of the day, we needed a young pass rusher and you cannot deny that Harris showed elite traits on film even if he didnt test well. People I really respect both love (MattyI) and hate (j-off) the pick. But I see it woth the gamble

Just from highlight reels he looks like a better prospect than Dion Jordan did to me fwiw. But he's a prototypical mid-twenties 1st rounder, there is a good chance he'll just be a "meh" starter but the hope is there is a lot more meat on the bone when he develops. DE is a high priority position and if its not a need now it will be in the near future, so no issue with drafting that position. And at least Harris has a plethora of different pass rush moves, that is a good start. What matters is how those moves translate to NFL tackles. I think at the very least he'll be a NFL "starter" with a few splash plays a season, but if the get off, power and spin moves translates well to the NFL he has the potential to be elite. Which is all you can ask for when picking where we picked.

Cam Wake is not an elite run defender either but would you trade 22 for him if he was still 28 years old? Elite run defenders who also rush the passer and have 4.6 speed don't drop to 22. Time will tell if he's better than Jordan Willis, and he is the pick I initially wanted. I'll hold any criticism after I see what he does on the field. Any draft pick that can push Branch to the bench is ok in my book.

Guess it depends on where you look. In most of the paid insider info I have he was a 2nd rd defender b/c he is not a 3 down player and a situational defender.

LOL no wonder you're drunk, you pay for that garbage! No wonder you're so out of touch

The intriguing thing about DJ was his athleticism. I was on board with drafting Jordan, but if you watch his college tape he rarely lined up with his hand in the dirt... hell the most of the time they actually blitzed him covering the slot rather than even as an LB. So yeah in terms of a pass rusher, Charles Harris is way ahead of DJ when he came out.

Ah.

C'mon man.

Same tired old take that's been making excuses for Fins talent acquisition for years. Just another iteration of "THE FRONT OFFICE KNOWS BEST SO SHUT-UP!"

I'm glad you're thrilled to spend another high draft pick to develop a player with question marks. Pay him to play part time for two years. In time to overpay or lose.

And not help the run D.

Glad you're thrilled about that. But I'd like the Fins to be great sometime in my lifetime.

You'll be talking Out of your bunghole after the first time this dude paste Brady
