Ireland has been mediocre at best to be fair to him. We need another GM that can build a playoff team instead of constantly trying to fix poor decisions made in prior drafts.
The way I would build a team is to draft quality players that the draft offers instead of going in a different direction. Last season there was 6-8 legit WR's available until round 4 yet we ignore the obvious need because of the free agent additions of Nanee Legado and the other guy(forgot his name). Just a huge mistake. This pattern happened again with the Matt Ryan / Jake Long selection. We could have had any player in that draft, and we picked Long and Pat White. Just horrible. Mistakes every freaking year.
I would rather take my chances with a relative unknown GM than to get another year of Mr Go against the grain and out smart everyone Ireland.
In the best case scenario, I want Philbin to get increased power and to hand pick his GM who would report to him. I trust Philbin to build the team without any wasted picks.
We are set up to turn this team around with al the picks and the nucleus that we have. One good draft could put us into contention with more players coming going forward.
The last remaining turd of the Parcells regime must be flushed.

I do think he has that sense of Im smarter than anyone else. Trade Marshall hell Chad Johnson and Nannee can pick up that slack.
It speaks volumes that the two receivers signed to take his place had one nfl reception this year lol. Then let me pick up Anthony Amrstrong who cares if the redskins cut him he can get it done.
Not to mention the turd Roberto Wallace. Three players one catch then add Armstrong for 3 more catches now we are up to 4 receptions. Well throw in Marlon Moore now we are up to 10 cacthes .
Yea he is a helluva GM

What about Hartline's season Dwhinge? You've conveniently forgotten to mention him. Good draft pick he was.

Yea too bad he liked Patrick Turner better. So he missed on Patrick Turner and Edmund Gates and hit on Hartline so yea not a great ratio

people keep saying he is a good talent scout...that hasnt been the case on the field which leads me to 1 of 2 positions.
1. He is a good talent scout and coaching is the problem...
2. He Really sucks at scouting...

people point out all the players we could have taken but that does not mean they become the same players under sporano and company...the reason I say this, is when you give henne blackmon as a receiver he had a few great games...

but then again pat white and vonte should say he's throwing poo at his draft board and picking where ever it hits...

Blindfold me, give me 5 draft boards and 25 darts, and i will hit on a few players too. The guy has been terrible at building this roster, no matter what system it's for. Of course, unless you consider beating Jacksonville and Buffalo big achievments.

Well esp when u consider that many of his draft picks are not still here

From 2008 jake Long is the lone survivior and he may not be worth bringing back
from 2009 Hartline may be the only guy back and Smith is a possible goner as is ,mediore Clemons
from 2010 Jared Odrick seems solid but Reshard JONES only home run
from 2011 Pouncey is damn good, but trading up for Danial Thomas was already seen as a mistake since they then traded up the next year to take another runningback
Definately not a good draft overall

Look at what Tony Sporano is doing to the New York Jets offense and then tell me its all on Jeff Ireland. Tim Tebow would not even enter the game this weekend thats pretty bad.
There are many of Irelands picks and free agent pickups playing well for some of the teams in the playoffs this year.
Last years draft class is starting to look like a home run especially when you consider the college free agents on the roster. Ireland is reponsible for signing or resigning everyone on our current roster.
.
Miller you could see in this years draft was stolen in the 4th round to replace Bush in case he left or ended up on IR
Martin taken in the 2nd round was another "Oh my God another lineman pick" who is looking like another steal playing at LT
Ryann T. looked like a reach but when healthy before and after his knee injury this year has played much better than expected.
Vernon in the 3rd round has played very well as all around player. The kid was raw as grass and is contributing.
R. Mathews 7th round has been coming on and showing he can play in this league
Kheshon Randall another 7th rounder filled in and contributed during Tony McDaniels absense
Derrick Shelby de rookie college free agent year has played all year in our DE rotation
Josh Samuda OL rookie colege free agent this year has been on the roster all year argubly playing behind the best center inthe game Mike Pouncy
Jarverski Lane college free agent is our starting FB all year and has player well
Marcus Thigpen CFL free agent has been a top notch return specialist.
What I find most interesting though is that what I will label as a bunch of throw away players just last year that Ireland drafted and many of you "were" complaining and labeling as wasted draft picks have suddenly turned it on this year under the new coaching staff. Guys like the LB Misi. DE Jared Odrick, OL John Jerry, SS Reshad Jones and yes evenFS Chris Clemons have suddenly elevated their play and turned into strarters for us this year.
Matt Moore, Starks, Tony McDaniel, K Burnett, Anthony Fasano and CAMERON WAKE and Bush have been really good players for us and in a couple of cases FA steals.

Wake is probably the best DE in the NFL or darn close
Bush is only our 3rd ever 1000 yard rusher in a phins uniform and we got him for a song and a dance
Bunrett has been everything advertisied and more
Starks has been argubly our best DT until Paul Saloi showed up
Fasano has been a very good all around TE
Dansby is a bit overpaid but has provided 100 plus tackle seasons in his tenure with Miami and is a top notch ILB just what we wanted

Moving back in the draft
Pouncy at center has quickly come about the best center in the NFL
Hartline 4th round has turned into a 1000 yard reciever(who would have thougth that early this year)
Bess a college FA has been a top notch slot reciever since he was a rookie
Carpenter for all the complaints as a college free agent pickup really on missed the 50 plus field goals early in the season but has been solid and has gone to the pro bowl as an alternate.
Paul Soliai was on very thin ice when Ireland arrived but someone saw ennough talent to resign the kid until the light bulb went off]
Brandon Fields has been kept in the fold and is looking like a pro bowl canidate this year.

Just some things to think about in reponse to all these negative threads.
Probably what I believe is most important to look at is last years haul in the draft and college free agent pickups along with many of our former players elevating their play under Philbin

Why did you thumbs down a post that gave no stance or opinion, pro or not? Its like you asking, what is your favorite color, and then someone thumbs downing it. Makes no sense.
Whether I like it or not (and I don't), he won't be fired any time soon.

Its way too early to start praising this past draft, I bumped a thread from 2010 where a poster called most picks from 2008 and 2009 "homeruns", including the likes of Henne and Merling and many other busts, kind of like what you're doing here. Now that we've had a proper amount of to reflect on those drafts they look like complete disasters to the point where we might not have a single player left on the team next season from the 2008 and 2009 drafts.

I hear you about that draft and I would say any comments on that draft were made based more on percieved potential. My draft comments are based much more on production and what I am hoping is a upward trend from when Ireland first arrived as a rookie GM under the tutliage and advisor of Bill Pacell and the influence of his fellow hire from Dallas Tony Sporano. There are some very good players on our team now that we just did not have when he arrived also. A good argument could be made that keeping Brandon Marshall and Vonte Davis on the team this year would have made us playoff bound. Though I am still on the fence on the VD trade and thought that Brandon Marshall unless well mangaged by a coaching staff could be more of a cancer to a team than his talent could overcome.

I agree with brandon marshall but certainly not vontae davis. He was and still is highly overrated on these boards. He has been simply horrible this year as well. One of the worst DB's in the league. I mean both Nolan Carroll and Sean Smith are having better seasons than he is if that says anything about him.

Ireland is a train wreck.... He had the top pick in every round in 08 and we will soon have Z E R O players from that draft still on the team.

09 and 10 aren't looking much better.

There is a reason we are now on YEAR SiX of our "rebuild"

Based on what VD has done in Indy this year are you correct sir. Based on his tenure on the field with the Phins in the past when he was healthy he had been a play maker for us. The kid had maturity issues is a known fact. His first couple of years were his most productive which means the talent is there its finds the right coaches that can milk it out of the kid. At this point though (even though is was a 1st round draft pick we traded away) you have to give kudoes to the phins mgt for seeing the kid was headed south and got out in front of the situation and got something in return before the rest of the league caught on.

Voted no. I strongly believe that the Marshall trade was among the worst off-season moves in football last year.
