MERGED: Breaking News Ray Rice released by Ravens.

The law enforcement officer who sent the video to the "NFL Executive" was not authorized to released the video. It is also illegal to record a phone call without that person's consent in NY (which is where NFL offices are). The law enforcement officer is remaining anonymous. We don't know what this "NFL Executive" did with the video. Basically, there is a lot of **** that stinks here. There are so many ways that Goodell can and will get out of this. Goodell is a douche, but I doubt he gets ousted for this.

It was a voicemail.

Okay, for a moment of levity:

Tomorrow's Thursday night opener features the Ravens. The artist who will be performing to open the show... is Rihanna.

:sidelol:

.

Seriously? lol, wow

I wonder if Chris Brown and Floyd Mayweather will be in the stands watching the game to add to that.
I am not making this up

@nfl Commissioner Roger Goodell announces ex-FBI director Robert Mueller III will conduct an independent investigation into Rice situation.

The focus of the independent investigation will be handling of the Rice evidence. John Mara & Art Rooney will oversee the investigation.

Goodell pledges full cooperation to ex-FBI director Mueller, including access to all @nfl records. Final report will be made public.

Don't worry were going to get to the truth! Lol.

These independent investigations are genius PR moves. It gives these turd burglars the ability to "I can't answer a question about an ongoing investigation" while they try like hell to change the subject. Then the report gets released in the armpit of the offseason while Goodell sits behind his Tony Montana desk trying to dream of ways to be an even bigger asshole in 2015.

Speaking of which, I have Josh Gordon in both of my leagues this year. Get on that, NFL.

There too busy protecting the 'shield', now we know why the vote etc didn't move forward they were in damage control mode.

A fall guy won't be enough to satisfy the public and press. If in fact a video was delivered no one will believe Goodell didn't see it. This investigation is nothing more than a check in the box but it will keep the story at the forefront of ALL media outlets. Any incident involving violence against women is going to ratchet up that thirst for Goodell's head on a platter.

I read recently that the NFL fan base as a whole is 43% women. The owners money is far more important to them than a guy that can easily be replaced.

Who would be some potential replacements for Goodell?

so according to Adam Schefter, when Ray Rice met with Goddell and NFL officials after the incident occurred he told them EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.

Can someone tell me why the Federal government needs to investigate the NFL? I never condone any violence unless it is necessary for your safety but this confusing to me, if the Rice's have made peace with it, the NFL handed out the punishment and the courts made their ruling so move along. I see people saying Rice's wife has set back women's rights decades, how is that so? Domestic violence if anything has been further reduced by this event if anything, NFL players now know there is a zero tolerance policy in place.

I mean are we really a one strike society now because if we are the people running the investigation better ask for a lot resignations from Capitol Hill down to the NFL. While we are at it the NFL better hold the owners and the NFL employees to the same standards, one event and bam, a year off from work, automatic.

The crusading in this country is out of ****ing control.

Yeah but what was Ray Rice's version of what happened? I pushed her, she slipped and hit her head on the rail in the elevator and was knocked out. I dragged her out of the elevator and that's what you saw on the tape.

We don't know what Ray Rice said.

Here are some questions that have come up.

Why would Roger Goodell cover up this incident for Ray Rice?
What is there to gain by doing that?
Would it not be better for Rice to take the bullet for the NFL than the heat being but on the entire NFL right now?
If the tape was available why didn't Baltimore take action sooner? Since Rice played for Baltimore don't you think they should have had the tape before anyone else?
How do we know the security person in charge at the casino didn't hide the tape to sell it to the highest bidder later on? And if not, why didn't he step forward with the tape sooner? Like right after Rice was given a 2 game suspension?

I'll add that Roger Goodell didn't hit Jeney Rice....Ray Rice did and somehow Goodell is getting more heat that Ray Rice which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. (pointed out by Joe Rose this morning and I agree).
