Merged X12: Ongoing Henne vs. Sanchez Debate...

really in two games? because last season he proved to not be very good and had to have his team carry him and even in week one..... you cant say someone is better than the other this EARLY in each others careers.... both have played very well so far this season and now we can see what henne really has now that the OC is opening up the playbook a bit more

Sanchez made huge strides in the playoffs last year, yes you can whine and complain about how the jets got there. however, once there sanchez looked solid. I wouldn't put too much stock in the first game, that ravens defense can make anyone look bad. Sanchez so far has 6 tds 0 picks. he's obviously progressing nicely.

Gonna be fun watching Sanchez come back to reality against a real defense next week. Hopefully he has confidence in his arm after having a very good game against an atrocious defense. Will be picks galore.

Good call bro. Keep saying we aren't going to keep any of Holmes, Cro or Braylon while you're at it. With your track record we'll keep all 3.

Dug this thread up huh?

Instead of just saying who's the better QB is we can break it down to the aspects which makes a great QB. We can grade them from 1 (worst) to 10 (best)

Arm Strength: ability to thrown down field/in tight windows/outside the numbers...etc (10 = Peyton Manning)

Mobility: ability to avoid the rush and/or run for positive yards. (10 = Mike Vick)

Accuracy: ability to make tight & precise throws at short, intermediate, far distances on the field/ (10 = Drew Brees)

Intelligence: ability to recognize schemes & coverages/knowing when to throw the ball away/knowing when to check down, audible a play, or take a timeout/takes advantage of opponents weakness(es)/Rarely makes costly and stupid errors/knows opponents tendencies (10 = P. Manning)

Leadership: ability to direct the offense/lead in the huddle/rally the troops against the odds or a deficit/shows positive off the field behavior and has a positive locker room presence/ability to bounce back from bad plays.
(10 = Tom Brady)

Toughness: ability to play consecutive games and is not injury prone/will stand in the pocket and take a hit if necessary to make a play successful/able to take hits and not leave the game/willing to rush into traffic for positive yardage (10 = Brett Favre)

Intangibles: anything one can't coach or teach a QB...Heart/Determination/a will to succeed/ the ability to come through in clutch situations (4th quarter comebacks a plus)/doesn't get caught up in the moment/raises level of play when necessary (playoffs). (10 = Tom Brady)

So....what would we grade Henne & Sanchez from 1-10 in each of the following categories folks?

marky sancheez is suck a joke Chad "God" Henne outplayed him last season in less games srsly

Mergedx2: ESPN's Tim Graham: Sanchez over Henne

The quarterback duel we imagined hasn't materialized.

The hottest topic on the AFC East blog throughout the offseason was the debate about Mark Sanchez and Chad Henne, a pair of franchise quarterback hopefuls entering their second seasons as starters. They possessed substantial upside for their fans to get behind, yet plenty of imperfections at which their detractors could jab.

I am not the biggest Henne supporter. However, Graham makes out like Henne is getting smoked by Sanchez. Am I missing something? He stinks as a reporter. That blog crap that ESPN does per division is so stupid.

Henne 64% completions.
Sanchez 55% completions.

other than the td/int ratio its pretty even, we'll see how it looks by the end of the year but obv. at the moment the jets supporting cast is outplaying miamis. Our o-line and run game blows at the moment so only so much can be expected.

I left Mr. Graham on that post of his. What I said, more or less, was to get back to me when:
a) Sanchez has a fourth-quarter comeback under his belt (he has zero in his career while Henne has three)
b) Sanchez completes anywhere near 60 percent of his passes (Henne is well over that both for his career and this season)
c) The season completely unfolds (4-5 games does not a season make)

Sanchez is certainly showing signs of improvement (particularly in terms of not throwing costly INTs) but he still hasn't shown an ability to make big plays when the game is on the line (he completely disappeared this past Monday in the second half when the game was on the line).

I'd say that both he and Henne need to continue progressing quite a bit before either can be proclaimed as franchise QBs. That said, both have shown promising signs (Henne is definitely winning the competition between the two through 4-5 games).

Good point about the fourth quarter comebacks. Henne does have that edge on him too.
