Report: Rey Maualuga working out and Signs for Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are signing veteran Rey Maualuga to a one-year contract, a move meant to reinforce a linebacker corps following the loss of rookie Raekwon McMillan to a season-ending knee injury.

Maualuga is expected to be the team’s middle linebacker, playing primarily on run downs.

Maualuga, 30, agreed to a deal that will pay him $900,000 in base salary (the minimum for a ninth-year veteran) and an $80,000 guaranteed bonus. The Dolphins will invoke the minimum salary benefit, which essentially means the nine-year veteran will count $695,000 against the team’s salary cap.

Rolando got arrested again a few months ago here in Hartselle about 300 yards from my house. Marijuana and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Misdemeanors...but he hasn't changed. Football is not a priority at all for him.

Too bad. Him and Spikes were virtual locks for decent careers if they could get their heads out of their collective asses. Such a phenomenal waste of talent.

And if he comes in and he doesn't cut it we can cut him final cut spent 80k. although you shouldn't be making this signing if he didn't physically look the part in your workout

Kind of hard to hate on the move, and like you said they can move on and release him if other option present themselves later.

Never was a fan of his game, but this is the definition of a necessary signing. Just have to hope he doesn't get picked apart too much in pass coverage.

It's sad. He could've been a dominant player for years.

He looks like a Safety covering the TE (Ex Dolphins Randy Wifebeater)

What the hell happened to him???

What happened to him that last year with the Bengals?
Maualuga played 119 games and started 108 for the Bengals, contributing 699 tackles as one of the primary weapons in stopping the run. Yet, as the league shifts to coverage linebackers and away from bigger tough, run-stopping prototypes his position became less important.
Maualuga saw his playing time decrease significantly as last year wore on, struggling to produce at the level of previous seasons. Maualuga played on just 30 percent of defensive snaps compared to 57 percent in 2015.
Now 30 years old, the trend wasn't going to reverse.
