The San Antonio Spurs pulled out a hard-fought win in their last game to continue their surge toward the top of the Western Conference.

They may not have as much trouble holding off an injury-plagued Los Angeles Clippers team that's in the midst of a season-high losing streak and has always struggled in San Antonio.

The Spurs go for their 15th win in 18 games Thursday night when they host the Clippers, losers of eight straight overall and 11 in a row at the AT&T Center.

Despite trailing for only one possession, San Antonio (23-11) was never able to pull away during a 91-84 win over Miami on Monday night. The Spurs built a 10-point lead in the first quarter, but had to make 10 of their 17 field-goal attempts in the fourth to hold off the Heat, who rallied several times.

"These guys have been there before," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of the Spurs. "They're a seasoned, veteran team that's played in a lot of big games. You could tell how much poise they have out there. They're totally calm in these type of situations. They've experienced it so many different times."

Spurs Waive Tolliver....

Spurs Waive Tolliver

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have waived forward Anthony Tolliver.

The 6-8, 240-pound Tolliver appeared in 19 games for the Spurs where he averaged 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.9 minutes. He also spent time with the Austin Toros, the Spurs affiliate in the NBA Development League. In six games with the Toros, Tolliver averaged 17.8 points and 7.8 rebounds.

The Spurs roster stands at 14.

Final: Spurs 106, Clippers 84

The Spurs got their defense going in the fourth quarter - largely with bench players. That was enough to lock up a 106-84 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Tony Parker led the Spurs with 19 points, Roger Mason Jr. had 18, Michael Finley had 15 and Manu Ginobili had 13. Tim Duncan had eight.

It would be good to see Fabricio Oberto to get back into the groove. A positive sign was his basket with 1:42 left. That was his first made field goal since Dec. 9 and his first point since Dec. 12.

Oberto and Jacque Vaughn are in with 5:09 remaining and the Spurs leading by 20. This is only the third time Oberto has gotten into a game since suffering from a sore foot.

The Orlando Magic dominated their last opponent to extend their longest home winning streak in nearly three years. Their play away from home has been just as impressive.

The Magic look to improve the NBA’s best road record as they meet the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night in a matchup between division leaders that have been two of the league’s hottest teams lately.

Orlando (29-8) has won 16 of its 19 home games, including 11 in a row for its longest home winning streak since taking 12 straight from March 10-April 15, 2006.

The Southeast Division-leading Magic extended their current run Friday night with a 121-87 rout of division rival Atlanta. Hedo Turkoglu made all five of his 3-point attempts and led six players in double figures with 21 points as the Magic pulled into a tie for the most wins in the league.

“I don’t think anybody is too concerned with our record, we’re just trying to play healthy basketball,” said point guard Jameer Nelson, averaging 16.2 points and shooting 50.9 percent from the field—both career highs.

The San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers have ruled the Western Conference for most of the last decade, combining for nine of the last 10 conference titles and seven league championships in that span.

The way both are playing to start 2009, it wouldn't be surprising to see that trend continue this spring.

Their season series will begin on Wednesday in San Antonio, as the teams meet for the first time since Los Angeles quickly ousted the Spurs in last season's conference finals.

Los Angeles came within two games of its fourth NBA title of the decade last season, but lost to Boston in the finals. Over the past 10 seasons, they remain one championship shy of San Antonio's four league titles since 1999.

Last May's series marked the sixth playoff meeting in the last decade for these clubs, which again appear to be the class of the West.

RMJ!! Hes Money

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Roger Mason's improbable three-point play with 10.5 seconds remaining boosted the Spurs to a 112-111 dramatic win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kobe Bryant had 29 points and 10 assists and hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 12 seconds remaining for the Lakers, but after a timeout the Spurs went ahead thanks to an incredible shot from Mason.

Matt Bonner barely beat the five-second count and inbounded the ball to Mason, who drew contact from Derek Fisher and hit the line drive shot from the left corner to the game at 111. Mason, who ended with 18 points, canned the subsequent free throw.

Bryant was then double-teamed at the other end, and he passed to Trevor Ariza at the top of the arc. Ariza drove into the lane, made contact with San Antonio's Manu Ginobili, but was whistled for traveling with 0.8 seconds remaining.

The Spurs inbounded the ball to Bonner to end the game, which included a wild shot by Tim Duncan with 28.9 seconds remaining. He lost the ball in the lane, but it somehow went into the basket to give the Spurs a one-point lead, setting up one of the best finishes in the league this season.

Ginobili had 27 points for the Spurs, who blew an 11-point fourth quarter lead, but still managed to win for the 10th time in 12 games. Duncan logged 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, while Tony Parker also scored 20 in the victory.

bull**** home cooking foul. Anyway the last 3 min of that game was exciting.

And the Lakers have never received a home cooking foul..Never mind that,ANY cooking foul...See last years playoffs.

Fun game to watch.Especially when you see Kobe lose and act like a 3 year old.

Oh and the Cassell impersonation was priceless, especially when Mason threw it right back at him.

I suspect he's somewhere crying now.

The San Antonio Spurs relied on an unlikely candidate down the stretch to beat the team with the best record in the Western Conference. Late heroics could again be in order when they meet the surging Philadelphia 76ers.

The Sixers look to extend their season-high winning streak to six games Friday night when they host a Spurs team coming off a dramatic win over the defending West champs.

San Antonio (25-12) led the Los Angeles Lakers by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter Wednesday night before reigning MVP Kobe Bryant made a 3-pointer to put the first-place Lakers up two with 12 seconds remaining.

With Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker all on the court, the Spurs gave the ball to Roger Mason, who made a baseline jumper with 10 seconds left despite being fouled. Mason then sank the free throw and the Spurs held on for a 112-111 victory.

It was the second game-winning play of the season for Mason, who also hit a last-second 3-pointer to beat Phoenix on Christmas.
